View Full Version : cannot update ad-aware

When I try to update my ad-aware I get update failed. When I try to download the later version it saves it in a way that I cannot open it. I've been getting a bunch of SysFader Application Errors so I wanted to clean the computer. Already ran spy-bot. Was able to update that.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Angela

If you run Ad-aware SE, you must update it manually (http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/)
-{ Quote: "Despite what Lavasoft posted about the defs for the SE version being discontinued, if you scroll to the far right side of the Lavasoft page you will see a manual download link for the defs for the SE version. You will have to install them manually, you can not get them via the program updater." }-

ok..and how do I do that? The link doesn't tell you how. When did they stop the auto update feature?

I found a site to download ad-awar 7 and have done that. Now..I still can't update...any ideas ?
Thanks.....

Download the zip file and uncompress it into the Ad-aware SE folder (usually C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-aware SE\)

The link posted above contains the links for manually updating Ad-aware.

Honest question..with so many other better performing free botkillers(SAS,a2 and AVG) is it really worth the effort with a)the dated Adaware version or b)The new many bugs 2007 version;)

Don't feel ashamed :)
I would take fcukdat's recommendation and replace Ad-aware with moderm and more capable AS like SUPERAntiSpyware and AVG Antispyware.
OTOH, I have a little suspicion that your problems aren't related to malware.

You can do your conscience and machine a huge favor by turning to SAS, and i'm not trying to encourage some artificial endoresment like ad-aware is proven in the past. They have fallen so far in reverse in comparison it isn't even funny anymore.

SAS's own developer is very accessible right here as well as the forums and he watches fiercely over all his users/customers concerns and is one in many reasons that product is so highly recommended and respected, because it can be depended on no matter the circumstance.

You would be pleasantly surprised with such a switch and much more protected with minus hassles and empty promises you deal with now.

I have downloaded superantispyware.
Where would I get the others from?

If it's not spyware...what do you think it could be?

AVG AntiSpyware (Ewido) (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5)
A-Squared Free (http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/)

Just wanted to let you know that all is fixed! I have updated ad-aware and installed the other programs you suggested. The one program that actually solved my problem was Super Anti-spyware. I had a worm and that's the only program that found it. I also ran A-squared and that removed a LOT of junk. Thanks so much for your help. It's nice to have my computer back and no more sysfader errors!!:) :) :)

You're welcome and I'm glad that we helped to solve your problems. Still, I would advise you to post a Hijackthis log at a malware cleaning forum to be sure that all is OK.
