It was working fine a few weeks ago. I plugged it back in to back up my Firefox bookmarks and Noscript white list and when its plugged it nothing is detected anymore. I tried all USB ports and nothing. I have a Kingston 2 GB flash drive. What could be causing this problem and how can I fix it?

After you plug it in, have you checked in Windows Disk Management to see if you need to assign it a drive letter?
Sometimes this gets screwed up and a reassignment is all that's needed to make it show up again.

yes windows is bad at assigning driveletters, one day it assign one,the other day it assign the driveletter to another drive, and so back and forth,i find myself constantly manually reassigning the driveletters !!

You can try to enable it with this standalone utility. USB Remote Drive Disabler (http://www.intelliadmin.com/Daylight%20Saving%20Fix%20Download.asp)

Does it ask for drivers? If so (or even if it doesn´t), you might need to manually select the usbstor.inf file, I had this problem on a couple of Win 2000 machines.
