Hi,

when browser mode is set to active, I have troubles while trying to download
from some specific sites (browser hangs, firefox or opera).

I give you an example : I can't download this for instance :

http://www.nettle.us/quickpar/QuickPar-0.9.1.0.exe

Anyone else got these problems?
Thanks,
papa

As you may know, selecting active mode will take longer to process compared to passive mode.

In the case of this particular file, regardless if active or passive mode is selected, it still takes approximately 1 minute for ekrn to complete it's process. Once it gets to the uninst.exe file, it spends it's most time. That's with only Options > Signatures selected, no Heuristics\Advanced Heuristics selected. Task manager will also show not responding during this time but that is not a good indicator since it eventually does respond once ekrn is thru.

Why, I have no clue :-\

There is something wrong with that downloader. I don't have Active mode set and it still gave me fits when I tried it. Then I found I already have that version of Quickpar. I should have checked first. Oh well, at least I got to try the link for this thread.

Well, if I disable active mode, then the download starts right away.

-{ Quote: "Well, if I disable active mode, then the download starts right away." }-True but does it complete the download in just a matter of seconds on your end given that the file size is only 490 KB ?

I just tried to download that thing from the Quickpar site and it locked up my browser again. Stay away from that downloader.

Oops...you're right Bubba, so the culprit is not active mode.
But still I have to say that I have no problem with downloading that file with another antivirus software. So ESS might be the culprit.

-{ Quote: "So ESS might be the culprit." }-Since I'm using EAV, I'll rephrase that by saying ESS and EAV both struggle when analyzing that particular file.

I tried it on my wife's computer (EAV). With Firefox or with Internet Explorer it reaches a certain point where it locks up the browser.

just re-tried with every options on (active mode and so) and then could download the file slowly but complete.
