We are currently evaluating Acronis True Image Echo Server with a Windows 2003 Server computer running MSSQL Server 2000 SP4. This computer is used to host a web management interface for management software which remotely monitors and keeps logfiles for our systems.

We want to be able to create live backups on a scheduled basis, keeping the database information intact. Right now, we're using an external USB drive to do so as a testbed (trust me, not my choice); we'll be moving it over to something more robust as soon as possible.

So far we have been unsuccessful in doing so.

1) Using the built in VSS backup option in ATIES (which this version of MSSQL should support) we are able to back up the computer without issues, but when we take this test image and restore it to identical hardware, the database information and logfiles are not loading up when we pull up the web interface.

2) Using a before/after data capture command of NET STOP MSSQLSERVER / NET START MSSQLSERVER, we get an error that the command could not be executed. I have run tests just for doing this via the command line without issues.

3) Using a pre/post command of NET STOP MSSQLSERVER / NET START MSSQLSERVER, we get the same error as in #2.

We use the Acronis True Image Workstation software for backing up / imaging computers, and would love to use Acronis True Image Echo Server for this server, but unless the MSSQL data is able to be carried over into the backup image and then restored onto identical hardware, it can't serve our purposes.

Please let me know if I can provide further detail on the process we're using for the backup / restore.

Hello patrickk,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Corporate Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/).

Please try creating batch files with the respective commands (NET STOP MSSQLSERVER / NET START MSSQLSERVER), and use those for pre/post actions instead of using the commands directly.

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/support/) or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

Thank you.
