View Full Version : Anything similar to LockNote, just for files?

I'm looking for a freeware tool that works like LockNote, just with difference it would be meant to store files instead text. It would be great if it's self contained (i know it's not as secure but it makes it far easier to manage on an USB drive). AES 256 or anything better is somehow obvious...
Anything like it? I love the LockNote concept but no such luck finding anything like this.

The latest WinZip uses 256bit AES and is self-contained. There may be others that are freeware that do the same. I would try Googling freeware file compressors AES.

WinZIP ? No thanks. I'll pass... Besides, i doubt it can do anything that 7-zip can't... I'm talking about something like LockNote, just to store files instead just text...

Thanks but it's not "transparent" like the LockNote way i'm looking for...

Those are quite nice but which one to choose? I don't understand why developer has build so many different programs which actually do same?

EDIT: Is there any alternative to LockNote?

Thanks a lot! I see that comparison but almost all of them looks still similar. After all I need more something like LockNote so I start to test your links now.

I found removableTrezor to be the most useful for portable solution.

Yeah that best of those. I actually use that to cover LockNote too. Just create text file, drag that and edit and save.

Another Editor like text-encryption program, which claims not to need an installation:Crypto Text http://members.lycos.co.uk/wuul/index.html

Have you tried AxCrypt?
it does require an install, but you can encrypt any file, and you can choose to "encrypt to exe", which AS FAR AS I KNOW (haven't tried it), creates a standalone decryptable file.

Yes AxCrypt is another good one but doesn't do 256Bit AES encryption and not all the ones i suggested do either but i like the freebies that do AES 256 :P.

Another is Powercrypt

Edit: found another good alternative to LockNote. The result exe is tiny.
