OA Free Beta .69

Beta .69 has been out for a couple of days. On my system it is performing with release quality.

My only desire would be for the default status on wireless interfaces to be "not trusted" whenever the address of the adapter changes. The present behavior is the "trusted" or "not trusted" status remains unchanged from the last connection. That's not bad, but I would prefer the change, just in case I forget to change it to "not trusted" before leaving the house.

Mike, you guys are doing a great job. No other HIPS equipped firewall is so easy to use or quiets down so fast.

" }-Is this free or full version ? In a full version you can trust/untrust individual computers on a MAC base, so there is no need to make the interface trusted. Individual settings override interface settings.

This is not a Vista Release. Yet unknown when there will be a Vista version, the guys are working on it.

Hi Diver,

I got your PM, but since I found this post I will reply here.

First of all, lets discuss what a trusted interface is: If the interface is trusted, it means computers on that network (if they have a private IP Range) are able to freely communicate. Non-private IP addresses are not.

The reason why interfaces are defaulted to trusted is because in most cases, a private network would be a LAN, or a small home network.

If you're a road warrior - then you would need to connect. Similarly if you are in a shared-internet situation.

We figured that deciding between issues with people trying to get their home networks running vs the road warriors who are used to making and managing many network connections - we'd make it easy for the majority.

It is possible I suppose, we can optimise this further at some future stage.

If I may, what about an option to automatically enable Trusted based on a specified/saved IP address or range? If it is not in that IP or range, say you connect on a public wifi, then it is automatically on a Untrusted zone.

I know what you're suggesting and we might try and optimize it better based on the router MAC address or something like this - or network name.. something :)
