Recover data from USB Hard disk

hi all..

i just dropped my 60GB USB hardisk and now i am not able to recover the data now :'( ....any help is highly appreciated.....

How much is the data worth to you? You could try spinrite from GRC. That costs $90 USD however I'm not sure how useful it will be if it is from dropping a harddrive. If you are willing to pay $500 and up, a data recovery company can probably do it for you.

Depends how much damage resulted from the drop.

The read/write head probably caused some damage against the platter containing the data and the disk mechanism itself could also have suffered.

Some have reported success by buying exactly the same drive and transferring the disk, whilst others have even had luck by sticking the drive in a plastic bag in the freezer overnight,presumably contracting the damaged parts enough to at least get the drive going so as to to retrieve the data.

If you arent experienced at all and dont need the data,just write it off.

If the disk is still being recognised by DisK Management,there is some chance that some recovery could be made, a matter of trial and error with different software.

The USB hardisk is detected....but unable to read data from it....can you recommend any software....

Try these freeware apps. in any case,but probably a waste of time

You could also try the disk utilities in Ultimate Boot Disk here (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/),but you are on your own at that stage!

Make sure to read the help files properly so you know what you are doing.

HOWEVER

Your chance of recovery depends on damage being only superficial.

The chances are about zero.as you say data cant be read.

If the read/write head is damaged-you can only try a data recovery specialist,as the head needs to read the data before these apps can function.
