I have a 21Gb .tib file on my external hard drive. I want to erase my internal active hard drive and load the one from my external hard drive.

Do I have to format my hard drive before I do this or will loading the .tib file do all that for me?

Also, I tried using the recovery thing and I selected the .tib file and pointed it to my C: but it didn't erase or recover anything. It asked me to reboot - so i did, and then it did something before the Windows splash screen. But nothing happened as far as loading that .tib file.

This is really ticking me off and I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

No, you do not have to format the drive beforehand.
But instead of running the Recovery process from within Windows, make the bootable Rescue CD, boot with it and do the Recovery from the boot CD.

Hello tazboy,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).

Please make sure you use the latest build (4942) (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/) of Acronis True Image 10.0 Home. To get access to updates you should first register (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/registration/) your software.

If the issue persists with latest build, please try using Acronis Bootable Rescue Media to perform the operation, as suggested by DwnNdrty. Don't forget to recreate Acronis Bootable Rescue Media after updating.

Thank you.
