The Blink suite is free for a year. The av component uses the Norman engine and the firewall should be able to be disabled if you want.

As to free AVs -- with respect to *certain* AVs, their company's "zero" price accurately reflects what their product is truly worth (such being the case for Ahn Labs, Comodo AV, & PCT AV perhaps?).
OTOH -- the McAfee 1-year freebie at the link provided by computergeek (post #16) seems on the up & up. Is there a hidden catch somewhere? If not, that is a dadgummed fine AV at a jolly good price.

Here is something about a 1 year free license for Kaspersky antivirus. It has something to do with Chinese and looks to be more trouble than it is worth. But YMMV.

Hi,
Referring to KAV 7 free key offer from China:
It works for Chinese Domestic e-mail address only.
however, I have learned that your Gmail address may work if you check your current living address is in one of their Provinces.
This is a legitimate offer from KAV's Chinese branch.
Good luck and take care.

I haven't followed much this issue in the past, but from a forum search, it appears that objectID use is present even in KAV 8 Alpha. So KAV 7.0 must have the check disk issue...
Dang it!

Hey after I used Active Virus Shield, my Second Stage delayed over 5 minutes. Then I thought what the heck I may as well give the free six month KIS trial a go that was around the forums last year. Well between the Second Stage delay and my experiences using KIS, it just doesn't seem worth using KAV with the chance of this happening again. I have since had a new hard drive put in, ( not from anything KIS did) and I no longer had the delay. My experience with KIS wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything to write home about. I think using Avast Home, ThreatFire, and PC Tools Firewall would be very close to the protection Kaspersky offers, or maybe even better.

I was able to get it to work once. KAV 8 Alpha still uses objectID but in a different way so that you don,t get the chkdsk issue. At least that's what they are saying on the Kaspersky board but I haven't verified that claim.

If someone could translate the pages it might give us a clue as to why the registrations are failing. Google only translates the very first page, not the ones deeper into the registration process. On the other hand, maybe they were getting too many hits from US servers and are blocking the requests?

After 30 days, buy it.
If money is an issue the free 3 A's are all very good and have used them myself.
