I set up email notifications.

When I tested it, the email was sent with the following subject line:
%s: Threat alert

Looks like something was supposed to be inserted where the "%s" string format is.

This is with ESS 3.0.621.0

If you don't mind, would you go back into the email notification setup and select Edit format. Look in the Format of threat warning area, is there a period at the end of %VirusName% ?

If so, would you mind deleting that period and OK out of Setup. Then download the EICAR test file mentioned in your earlier thread today (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=198402). That should send you an e-mail due to the threat warning. When you receive the e-mail, does it appear that the threat warning message is somewhat more complete ?

The pic below is EAV but should be similar for ESS.

The problem is in the email's SUBJECT, not in the content of the message.

Removing that period only removed the period from the email message.

Here is the e-mail I receive (addresses removed to protect the innocent :-) ) :

Subject: %s: Threat alert
From: xxxxxxx
Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2008 15:22:00 -0500
To: xxxxxxx

1/25/2008 15:21:59 PM - Module HTTP filter - Threat Alert triggered on computer PFREDD: http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar.com contains Eicar test file

Note the "Subject:" line. See the "%s" there? That is the problem.

Thanks!

-{ Quote: "The problem is in the email's SUBJECT, not in the content of the message." }-While there has not been any follow-ups nor comments by tech support, this was a thread (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=196447) from a few weeks back where there was mention of Subject and Message issues.

Looks like exactly the same problem.

The CONTENT of the message is fine. It's the e-mail's SUBJECT that has a problem.

In the link provided above, the thread starter was seeing both issues.
-{ Quote: "blank body with just "%s: Threat Alert" as the subject line." }-

The second poster had the issue you are having.
-{ Quote: "I have the same issue with the subject line.
However the body of the message is ok:" }-Bottom line is there are issues with the CONTENT and SUBJECT area.

The message body area I can duplicate but the SUBJECT issue is still a mystery. I'm sure the Eset techs will find the fix to both issues sooner than later.

As my original subject said "SMALL bug...".

I can live with a %s in the subject... :-)

Have a good weekend ;)

I just received an e-mail from ESET support saying that this is a known issue that will be fixed in the next release.
