Google "free after rebate". That site always has links to Norton (and other AV) for free.

With OEM version, will I get regular updates also ? I can use NIS 2009 or coming version also ?
I am not in U.S., so I don't retail box pack.

If you are not in the US or Canada you may have a difficult time finding a free after rebate deal.

OEM for all intents and purposes is the same as if you bought it from Symantec. you will receive all updates as available just like the box version. You just don't get a box or Manual. The manual is on the disc. I have used OEM software for many years with no problems what so ever.

Same here. I purchased KIS as an OEM. Actually downloaded their 30 day trial from the Kaspersky site and once the trial was up I inserted the OEM license key. Worked like a charm. The OEM disk never left its sleeve.

My Vista Ultimate is OEM and I just purchased McAfee Internet Security 2008 OEM (thanks again for the link, BigC :) ). In the case of MS OEM the main differences is that you cannot install it on another computer (like if your computer conks out and you want to transfer it to another). Also you do not get MS support but I have never used it anyway.
OEM is great when your pocket isn't that full, lol.

i have f-secure OEMs, many of.
they work great.
is DELL Vista an OEM, if so... that works the same as a retail product too.
id love to purchase an OEM of the 64bit version, but whats the point when i own vista 32?
same would probably be for Norton aswell, should be no problem. :thumb:

Chris, you reminded me of another point: when you purchase Vista OEM you only get whichever -bit you choose. Retail has both versions included.
Anyway other than these kind of restrictions OEM works the same as Retail.

yes, this is true with OEM's and probably with Nortons aswell.
dell didnt give me the choice, they are stupid really.
they sold me the 64bit machine, and supplied me with the 32bit operating system.

Shipping is (at least) $5 with this, so it's actually $27 USD. Newegg.com has what appears to be the same item (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832108334) for $24.99 with free 3-day shipping (I'm guessing that's only the continental US though). I didn't search anywhere else so there may be better offers also.
What I'm wondering though is: When they say "1-pack" and "1-user", it seems to mean the license is only valid for a single system. (Not a surprise since it's OEM which means it's supposed to be sold only with a new PC.) If you buy from Symantec (http://www.symantec.com/norton/products/overview.jsp?pcid=is&pvid=nis2008) you spend $59.99, but you get a license valid for up to 3 systems.

Its usually pretty cheap at Fry's. Free after rebates if you had last year's version, otherwise about $20.
