uninstalling Norton AntiVirus 2003

A friend just bought a notebook "compaq presario 2100 series" it comes with "Symantec™ Norton AntiVirus™ 2003 " already installed but only for 60 days automatic update. He would like to uninstall NAV2003 but he says that the dealer told him that he needs an uninstaller for NAV. He asked me and I preferred to get the answer from the experts here. Therefore, the question is: how can we install NAV2003 completely from the notebook and install another say NOD32

Hello:
I have had a nightmare trying to uninstall NORTON(SYMANTEC)Antivirus.
I upgraded my windows to XP. But now when I try to reinstal the 2004Symantec
Virus disk it locks up half way through installation with the error msg:
ERROR 1606: Could not access network location "Documents and Settings\all users\desktop"I checked the site and did everything as requested (past TWO days) but when I go toreinstall it does the same error.I downloaded Rnav2003.exe and removed the earlier versions as suggested. Butthe problem is still there. The rollback does not completely uninstall the 2004 versioneither. All that stuff is still on the computer. The actual file giving the problem ison my desktop with a link to my dowload location. It is an intelligentupdater 20040018-019-i32.exe ant that is the file it isactually looking forbut for some reason cant find it even after I fixed the link to the download location. Heres my log: What should I delete?? PLZ HELP!!!

Hi Minera,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll

Then reboot.

Those two might be holding up the uninstall.
