I have set up a RAID disk on a Linux box that is part of my LAN. My LAN consists of a MAC laptop, 2 XP desktops and a XP laptop. The Linux RAID is for backing up documents and files from the other PC's. Also I will log on to the linux box to download files from the WEB - these files will ultimately go to the LAN.

What or how should the Linux box be setup with reguards to A/V and other scanners - do I need a realtime system setup - the box is a dual CPU dell workstation (dual 500's and 1G of memory) kinda old I know but it's what I have and it runs

or should I allow the respective LAN machines do all the scanning

Suggestions..

Thanks

Stephen

There are very few Linux malware programs, so you are scanning for Windows malware, in effect. I suppose if the Windows machines have AV's that should be enough. Most Linux AV's that I now of are for scanning mail, and are pricey enterprise products, but there is probably something out there if you must have it.
