View Full Version : "Windows 7" ???

Hi,
I know it's kind of an old issue, but I heard that Microsoft is developing
a new Windows OS called "Windows 7".
I'm just curious. Why would they make a new OS, if Vista is so not stable?
Are they perfectly sure that Vista is going to be stable by 2010?
Is Vista going to be like XP(a lot of people use it, seemingly stable) by 2010?
I don't get it. ???
Sorry for such non-sense question.
Thanks in advance,
and an early Merry Christmas ;)

Can not remember the name of it at the moment but you can bet there is a new OS already under development. Have read several places that MS plans on a new OS every 2(?) to 5(?) years. They do not make any money off of there old OS`s and software once released and in circulation. Nor do they make any, in fact they probably lose it, with the on going development of "patches. The only way to stay in business is the constant development and sales of new products.

I think it's an unwritten rule ?

DOS = Good
win 95 = Bad
Win 98 = Good
ME= Bad
Windows 2000/Xp = Good
Hasta La Vista = Bad
Windows 7 = ?

Not only does M$ have to churn new OSs for themselves.

But also for their hardware partners. It part of the hand in glove operations.

That is very true too. Would seem Vista is not the huge boon to revenue the hardware vendors had hoped for.

Every big company plans and develops hardware or software into the future to make the next versions even better. Its like building a prototype, when it is being build, its designer gets new ideas all the time, but he can not implement them all, because he would have to start over all the time and he would actually never finished it, so he postpone it to the next version or even next version of next version, if it can not be done in next version due to other ideas and so on. :)

Thanks for your reply guys,
So there is a possibility that Vista would end up as a BAD OS,
just like Windows ME, which Bill Gates called it a failure?

Have already read many comparing Vista to ME.......I will hold my comments till Vista sp1.

ME was rushed to market simply to keep MS in the public eye. Win 2k\NT was really meant for business and not general public release. Mr. Gates wanted to make MS\Windows a household word so ME was rushed to release as a stop-gap to fill the void between 98 and XP.

That is my (well read on the subject) opinion on the subject and I`m sticking to it. :lurking:

From what I read, Windows 7 is to be released around 2009. It's going to be totally redone including the core.

Xp is based of 2000 and Vista is based on XP core so it's still pretty much the 2000 core.

They are also thinking about implementing some new ideas where you can upload your home computer setup and access it anywhere you are.

And best of all, no more registry!

For the same reason that there are no new Studebakers.

They'd prefer a shorter OS cycle then they had with XP -> Vista as it just caused problems for them. Vista is suppose to be a stepping stone into 7. Considering the long development time put into Vista and still all the features that were still removed or displaced, 7 is going to require quite a bit of work.

Studebaker was a good car, and they built a good truck......no matter what anyone says. I learned to drive in my folks Study Golden Hawk, with the big tail fins. That sucker was fast and reliable.

My folks switched to Studebaker when Hudson began to fade. Then, when Studebaker died, they moved to American Motors. Seems like they always went with the dying company. They settled on Chevrolet when AM got bought out and killed by Chrysler Corp. GM isn't doing that well lately, but my parents have passed away and are probably driving a Hudson or Studebaker in Heaven today.

Dunno if it was rumored or based in some leak of fact, but i have heard another name mentioned for this O/S as SPECTRUM also.

As far as I know, this is still a codename.

Windows NT4.0
Windows NT5.0 => Windows 2000
Windows NT5.1 => Windows XP
Windows NT6.0 => Vista
Windows NT7.0 => Windows 7

This is an ongoing Saga of epic proportions, so my advice to those interested in finally discovering a reputable replacement for vista is stay tuned.

The rumors are really going to fly untill something of a real $M press release becomes public knowledge, and even then, i wouldn't take that as written in stone.

Remember Longhorn?

BREAKING: Windows 7 M1 Ultimate Edition Lives! - Video Proof! (http://news.softpedia.com/news/BREAKING-Windows-7-M1-Ultimate-Edition-Lives-Video-Proof-77243.shtml) (softpedia.com).
I'm wondering if Microsoft really is going to release Windows 7 that shorly after Vista.

I haven't heard of "Spectrum" before but it sounds quite nice, "Windows Spectrum".

There are some Windows 7 torrents out there though I don't know why someone wants to put an alpha OS build on their computer. Screenshots show not much different than Vista at this stage.

I will use my XP2 until I can't get software for it. If M$ continues to put out OS's like Vista that Still isn't compatible with a lot of software, I will be tempted to look at the Mac when I need a new PC.

At such an early stage there's not much to see at a new OS.
When you look at Whistler (=XP's codename) (http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads/479cb213bfbc7/whistler.jpg), then you see early versions where nothing more then Windows 2000 with some extras.

I rode in a Hudson once. Interesting vehicle. Saw one in the San Diego Auto Museum. The Studebaker looked like it was both coming and going. The back looked like the front and vice versa.

Seems like they are moving to something new mighty quickly now.. which is interesting, but I suppose not too surprising after Vista's general reception. I hope 7 turns out to be something better and not the opposite..

thanks, interesting but predictable,surprised me that there will be still a 32 bit version of 7. MS is very patient in giving thirth parties the time to develop on their 64 bit applications !?! Hey Adobe wake up !!

The next Official OS from Microsoft is Windows Vienna due for release in early 2009 :shifty:

Personally I've been burnt by M$ with all their previous releases of Windows. XP is the first really decent OS I've gotten from them that's been satisfactory. I mean, when they have to stop supporting an OS in order to force everyone to buy the next one, it's got to say something about their products. I can't see me ever leaving XP unless they release an "update" which causes it to no longer work. Which I wouldn't put past them.
