View Full Version : Merging partitions --losing all my data?

I looked around but didn't know what to search for exactly, so thought I'd make a new topic --sorry if it was answered before.

I originally had 2 partitions before installing Acronis Disk Director Suite: C and D ... each with ~75gb

I deleted some files from the D drive and made some room, and I took a piece out of D splitting it using Acronis Disk Director so now I have: C (75gb) --contains system files and documents, D (50gb) --contains more files, and E (25gb) --empty.

I added some files to the E drive and now I've deleted them all and I want to merge the E drive back to D.

But when I want to do this, before clicking the "Go" button, it tells me that the D drive (after the merge) will have 75gb of free space --even though I have files on the D drive still.

Does that mean it'll format my D drive? ... or is it just a bug or something in Acronis Disk Director that mistakenly tells you you'll have 75gb free space but in reality you'll have the 25gb you're merging back + whatever free space you had originally in the D drive?

If it will indeed format my D drive, is there a way to merge the two without losing my data?

Thank you

Since E: is empty, I would recommend that you delete the E: partition and then resize the D: partition to use the unallocated space. This avoids using the Merge feature.

It's also recommended to have a backup of your partitions (or at least your important files) before you do any partition operations in case something goes wrong.
