One of my Partition become Unformatted (RAW)

halo friend,
i got deep problem with corrupted partition, wonder someone can help me.

partition F: (NTFS) in my disk become unformatted after hard shutdown (hang when i doing acronis).
sad, that partition is the biggest size in my PC and it contains my important personal data.
i think someone can help me about editing a partition sector.
because i don't have enough free diskspace to use recover method.
please look i have image screenshot in attachment.

In previous posts you mentioned you have Partition Magic. So you will have ptedit32.exe.

Double click this file. Change to the HD containing the F: drive, click Goto EPBR once (maybe twice), and that should put you on the F: drive. (The sectors should be around 120,000,000)

Could you post an image of this ptedit32 window?

The second image is your F: drive and it looks fine. Formatting is NTFS. Strange. Could you use your DD boot disc and your Partition Magic boot disc and see if the partition information is any different. I note your final partition is a Secure Zone.

Someone with DD knowledge should be along shortly.

Hi mant,

Go to http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html and click on Download. It downloads BootItNG. Install it on a floppy disk and reboot the computer. Do not install unless you want to. Click through to the Maintenance Mode. Click on Partition Work. Delete the Second MBR.

The problem is that you have two MBRs on that Hard Drive. Remove the second one, especially when the first one shows space being used.

I can't agree with your two MBR theory. There is only one LBA-0 on a HD and only one MBR. Could you explain what you mean?

is that LBA means HD? then... i have 2 LBA, i have 2 hard disk same type MAXTOR, it's Dual Booting, all is XP pro sp2.

Acronis Disk Director (DOS) said like the first post "FS: None, Partition:0x7 (NTFS, HPFS)", i also try to use Paragon HD Manager, Partition Magic DOS, boot to DOS 3.1, also Linux Knoppix. when i try to browse the file inside F:\, they said can't mount or invalid file system, but the 'partition id' values is still detected as valid (NTFS). (see the first post image).

boot in XP using the Explorer just ask me "the disk not formatted, do you want to format it".

each disk (HD 0 and HD 1) contains 2 MBR Entry:

HD 0:
MBR Entry 0 Active ----- HPFS/NTFS
MBR Entry 1 ------------ Extended

HD 1:
MBR Entry 1 Active ----- HPFS/NTFS
MBR Entry 0 ------------ Extended


which MBR to delete?

LBA-0 is the very first sector on a HD. It contains the MBR. There is only one MBR on a HD. Each Master Boot Sector contains four partition slots in the partition table. Thats what TeraByte calls MBR Entries, the partition slots. If you delete MBR Entry 1 then you delete your J: drive. If you delete MBR Entry 0 then you delete the extended partition and the 3 logical volumes.

You must be getting desperate if you plan to do that.

On your first BING screen, click the 56839 MB line to select it. Then click Properties. Does it list an error?

I buy 80GB IDE Maxtor, format to FAT32 (because NTFS format make the job hard for applying the security policy each files latter).

I use EASUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro 4.01. It has ability to read data from RAW (unformatted) and very user friendly indeed. It's auto-save the last scan. The scan approx 10 minutes. I saw the results is differentiate between system file (mark as color red) and my data on that RAW disk.

After recovering my data to the new disk, I delete the partition F: then recreate it to NTFS format, with Acronis Disk Director Boot DOS. Then entering Windows to check the drive letter (assign to F: or not). Well, from windows i copying the recovered files from new disk to partition F.

I'm happy because all my data has fully recovered without any damage. Thanks all :thumb:
