NOD 2.000.9 vs. NAV 2004

I just want to get a feel for what people think. How does NOD 2.000.9 stack up against NAV 2004 Professional?

What are some of the advantages of each?

What are some of the disadvantages of each?

NOD32 advantages:
-Use less memory.
-The heuristic of NOD is able to detect much new viruses/trojans than NAV.
-24 VB awards earned.
-Scan the hard disk in less minutes/hours...
-Daily automatic updates.
-Scan incoming mail at winsock level.
A experencie: I've found a proof-of-concept virus, I send it to Symantec and Eset, and Symantec reply me: The file is clean!!!, other like NOD, KAV, etc. detect this virus perfectly. Make you own conclusion about the experts of Symantec.

NOD32 advantages compared to NAV2004:

- Much faster (IMHO the fastes av software around)
- Usage of less resources
- Cheaper
- Better support of runtime packers
- It's not a Symantec product ;)

NOD32 disadvantages compared to NAV2004:

- None that really count. ;)

Unfortunately none that hold much weight with anyone in the AV industry. ;)

It may not be an issue, but regardless of your processor's power--NOD is faster--which is an advantage, IMO.

And with NOD32. Much more frequently, as well--and uses incremental updates in the tens of kb, compared to hundreds of kb with NAV. Which in turn, cuts down bandwidth usage/frees up processor/communication quicker.

Best of luck with whatever you choose. NAV works well for me at work, as does NOD32 at home.

From what I've seen:

NOD32 advantages

- better heuristics
- faster
- uses fewer resources
- more frequent live updates
- slightly cheaper
- easier to uninstall
- better support

NAV advantages

- a bigger database (I think, at least)
- Symantec, being a big company, could be able to discover a new threat first
- better unpackers overall?
- more kinds of archives covered
- if you buy NIS, it's integrated with firewall, anti-spam, IDS

Does anyone notice the way NOD32 has vastly improved in trojan detection lately? I've seen it in my own tests. I used to prefer NAV to NOD32, but that is changing. If the trojan detection continues to improve, I may even change from KAV to NOD32.

No, Nod32 has (few) more static unpackers, plus(!) some kind of generic unpacking due to its "Advanced Heuristics". :)

I don't care of trojan detection from my AV since i use a dedicated AT more effective than any AV i think.

I am too testing the trial NOD32 version althought i have NAV2004, don't have a definitive choice yet.
