I used to run NIS 2004 and would often get a warnings about blocked intrusion attempts. I purchased a Linksys router w/ a firewall and then shortly after, switched to ZAP. Since I have had ZAP, I have not recieved a single intrusion attempt(Not complaing :D). I am just curious if my router/hardware firewall is blocking the "normal" intrusion attempts and that is why ZAP is not registering any intrusion attempts? I have seen threads where people have hundreds of blocked attempts..... ? ???

We'll suppose that your linksys firewall is working then :)
Have you checked at grc.com and pcflank.com?
Can you get at the linksys log (probably via a web page)?

Hey....

I have been to grc.com, and have used sheilds up and leaktest. Since I started using the router i have reieved a "pass" fully stealthed" rating from sheilds up. Before I always had one port 1024 not stealthed. I suppose I could disable the router's firewall for a while to experiment? ZAP logs any outbound program control info, and the control window says its working fine? ???

Hi,

A good hardware firewall should block all unwanted incoming traffic.

If you would like to test your software firewall:
you have indeed to disable your hardware firewall.

If you would like to see the logs from your LinkSys :
you might have a look at (not free) LinkLogger:
http://www.linklogger.com/
or Kiwi:
http://www.kiwisyslog.com/

hey!!

Another good one is Wallwatcher. also logs your router with computer off.
I use that on My linksys router.

I haven't found another one for my actiontec router as of yet.
