How to open P2P ports?

I have tried for some time now to get ESS to allow opening the port I specify to use with uTorrent, so far without any luck. Please, can somebody explain how it is done, or point me to another post where this is explained. Any help will be much appreciated.

i have the same prob too. i was using outpost and kaspersky for a year or so with utorrent and was getting around 500kB speed. but for the last 10 days i have installed nod32 after removing kaspersky, the settings are same by outpost but utorrent is showing me that red symbol that ports are not opened. i will be grateful if you can help me out. i have already included utorrent.exe to exclusion and crossed utorrent in web browser setting, the advices i googled but still the red icon is there.

Here are the rules I apply with CFP. I'm not sure if they work with ESS


How to configure Comodo firewall 3 for µTorrent.

1. Go to : Firewall -> Advanced -> Attack Detection Settings -> Miscellanous and disable Do Protocol analysis

2. Go to : Firewall -> Advanced -> Predifined Firewall Policies and select Add...

Give a name at the new Predifined Policy for example: µTorrent

Add the following rules:

Rule 1

Action = Allow
Protocol = TCP or UDP
Direction = In
Description = Rule for incoming TCP and UDP connections
Source Address = Any
Destination Address = Any
Source port = A port range = (start port = 1025 / end port = 65535)
Destination port = the port of utorrent


Rule 2

Action = Allow
Protocol = TCP
Direction = Out
Description = Rule for outgoing TCP connections
Source Address = Any
Destination Address = Any
Source port = A port range = (start port = 1025 / end port = 65535)
Destination port = A port range = (start port = 1025 / end port = 65535)

Rule 3

Action = Allow
Protocol = UDP
Direction = Out
Description = Rule for outgoing UDP connections
Source Address = Any
Destination Address = Any
Source port = the port of utorrent
Destination port = A port range = (start port = 1025 / end port = 65535)

Rule 4

Action = Allow
Protocol = TCP
Direction = Out
Description = Rule for HTTP requests
Source Address = Any
Destination Address = Any
Source port = A port range = (start port = 1025 / end port = 65535)
Destination port = 80

Rule 5

Action = Block (enable Log as a firewall event if this rule is fired)
Protocol = IP
Direction = In/OUT
Description = Block and Log All Unmatching Requests
Source Address = Any
Destination Address = Any
IP Details = Any

3. Start utorrent. When Comodo asks you with a popup, choose 'Treat this application as' select utorrent and enable Remember my answer.

If you have connectivity problems:
Go at Firewall -> Common Tasks -> Stealth ports wizard and select
Alert me to incoming connections- stealth my ports on a per-case basis

I created some rules that seem to work for me. Perhaps this screen shot might help. If you provide more detailed information on your configuration I am sure that someone will be able to help you get this sorted out. By the way, I have not excluded Utorrent in ESS or previously in EAV and I am not having problems since rule creations, although it does seem to take a little longer to get the green check mark since switching to v.3.

i am using only nod32 anti virus with outpost 4. yesterday atleast i got around 250kB with yellow icon in uTorrent. hopefully someday it will turn to green ??? . thanx for help

ronin12, thanks heaps for that screenshot.
Nod wasn't asking me what I did and didn't want to allow, until the 1st time I went into those settings. Now it is asking, and it''s made it so much easier to understand and use. :)

You are welcome. Just to explain a little further, I created a specific rule for inbound traffic concerning Utorrent. The rule only allows external computers using Utorrent to access my computer through the local port specified as being used for inbound Utorrent sharing traffic. I have had no problems getting the green check mark after the rule creation. A similar rule also had to be created for Limewire and similar programs. Hopefully this has been a little helpful.
