i think Google is building up their image. And besides they too need the public's in this particular area coz the web was too vast for them to police by their own.

Speaking of 'preemptive' defense against malicious sites, "SiteAdvisor" by mcAfee is an excellent plugin... available in 2 major flavours - IE's & the beloved fireFox.

Pretty effective, ;) and footprint is minimal for such a good preemptive warning tool!
