Which A/V, Spyware, E-Mail checker.

I am presently using Nortons System Works which I am considering not to renew after using the program for about 8 years.

Which software would be a better choice? I want one that scans my e-mail through Microsoft Office 2003.
I have Windows XP Home with IE 6 with windows and IE having all updates.

I have looked at AVG, BitDefender, Kaspersky, Panda, and Trend Micro.

Please give me some directions and not just I use so and so. If you use so and so please give me the reason you do.
