privacy and cleaning

I used to be able to find good links for privacy and what files or registry values should be cleaned for privacy. It seems that now Google search is as useless as Microsoft search in this area. All I get is hundreds and hundresd of advertising sites for shareware or other programs to download - and since I can't control what any of those programs are doing, I don't really want to use any of them.

In the past, I have used VBScript or even batch files to clean my hard drive and my registry.

Does any one have any good links for sites that list probable areas for cleaning in XP and Vista?
