Beware with Revo uninstaller

Uninstalled with it an app. with the name RENAMER,after finishing scan it listed items to delete also SMART RENAME with belong to my Archiving program IMATCH,so you can never trust this stuff even there so many here on Wilders writing lovesongs on it.

I know orphaned or stray registry entries has barely impact on performance,its the way how windows searches the registry,but its a different story i am talking about,so take it serious never trust these mindless thingies !!

Hi, I have had a suspicion a while back. Because It seem to find more registry leftovers than others, such as Smarty Uninstaller/ Yours Uninstaller.

I have ceased to use it for now. I guess sometimes, an aggressiveness and an effectiveness just can not walk hand in hand.

Thanks for the topic. I installed it after reading so many rave reviews over it recently and found it not so pleasant. Uninstallers been around a very long time so this one only gets one chance and it failed so back again to YourUninstaller.

I think ZSoft makes more sense, BUT Revo does an interesting job at times.
The other day i uninstalled Script Defender, which i didn't analyse with ZSoft, so used Revo. It detected the intercepts still there, and deleted them. I scanned the registry for SD and found nothing after.

It is good, but far from perfect. It can miss things, and it can detect unrelated items. One should confirm every item, not just delete everything.

In the latest version 1.40 (released yesterday) Revo Uninstaller improved their leftovers scan. It does now a far better performance.

In fact Revo Uninstaller does a good work now. The users don't need to use the paywares Your Uninstaller/Smarty Uninstaller/Cleanse Uninstaller.

And it seems that the excellent ZSoft Uninstaller will do the same for the next. Then we will have 1) a before and after install analyse (that allows a accurate uninstall) 2) before and after uninstall analyse.

A good news for the freeware uninstallers users.

I was about to reinstall a program because of an upgrade, and I usually prepare the new download on my desktop so that as soon the old version is uninstalled, and cleaned of the leftovers with a registry cleaner, I proceed directly to the new installation.

Well what Revo did was fairly scary: It unistalled my old version but it wiped out also the new potential download, it just disappeared from my desktop. I thought a bit to aggressive to control for my knowledge.

I'm back to good old windows uninstallers.

Very true.
Proud or even arrogant programmers like to call their software "intelligent" and "intuitive" on websites, but none of this is true, not even close, just empty words to make users buy their software.
If scanners were so intelligent and intuitive, why do they have false positives ?
If uninstallers were so intelligent and intuitive, why do I have to remove leftovers with registry cleaners ?
Computers can't think, they can only compare things, better than people.

It's possible to build a scanner with 100 % and almost zero FPs, but it would need a supercomputer to scan one file per second ;D

Registry cleaners are unable to remove all leftovers also. Like uninstallers they aren't so intelligent and intuitive.

Computers can't think but the developers can. And it's very good when we see that they improve their software.

Ahh, at first I thought this was a topic kinda attacking Zsoft (wasn't payin attention to Thread title). I have had all three ie., Zsoft, Your uninstaller, and revo on machine but find myself mainly using just Zsoft. I still like your uninstaller for the programs that were already on the installation that came from factory. AFAIK, there won't be any big problems with Zsoft as long as you aren't trying to do other things while analyzing an installation with it.

uninstalling registry happy app.and there are many can take forever,after uninstall with Revo uninstaller and thereafter a clean with reg. cleaner there remain sometimes hundreds of leftovers,and manually delete these stuff is a pain in the ass. Luckely we did,t worry much about that because in general it has no neg. impact. Its the way how the registry works and searches.

I agree with you to some extent;

There is a time when I hate/dislike a particular app so much so, and like to get rid of it completely(every single trace of it), then uninstaller may not be the ideal candidate for the task (perhaps partially yes it is).

In that case, a tiny sand in eye may not blind the eye sight, but is causing deep degree of discomfort.

I guess it is a personal choice between hundred leftover's presence and completely clean state.

In my two years experience,Revo hasn't let me down.

I use it mainly for deleting left over folders,as it seems completely senseless to obsess over registry leftovers-you can make a fulltime job for yourself hunting them down,for no purpose whatsoever.

They are by and large harmless and aren't going to slow the computer down.

Now it clearly shows the onus is on the user to make the deletion decision.

Its pointless blaming Revo if you make the wrong one, or none at all!

As already said in previous posts that Revo uninstaller list to delete items with similar looking names from different applications,thats a flaw in the coding and has to be fixed,thats the main reason why i started the thread.Its senseless to peruse over the all the listed items and figure which item belong to which application !!

As I said,Ive been using Revo for years and just do a quick check-then delete-no problems at all!

Why would you delete something with a different name -you have to be precise-if in doubt just leave and concentrate on the exact match.

Anyway,you probably were using a previous version,as the new one only came out a couple of days ago

I expect that the promise made by vendor to completely uninstall any application would stand in daily use,completely for me means EVERYTHING related to that application,also any registry item,nothing excluded.For me it does't matter that a few registry registrations are leftover after some uninstalls,as i said in some earlier posts its not worth bothering just like you said ,but a better coded app. would not mix and append registry items the way Revo does.So real intelligent coding shows itself in seeing the most minute differences at scanning the registry in this case. There are quite a few applications out there who uninstalls themself completely, so Revo as a SPECIALIST uninstaller has something to learn from them.

You point me to a newer version,i will give it a try...who knows .
