Dear Spywareblaster aficionados,

Whenever I click on the Spywareblaster icon to perform a manual update, a screen immediately comes up asking for my Dell resource CD.

This began yesterday, after having updated to the new Comodo Firewall, which I removed last night, in frustration, (after being subjected to one too many Windows error reports...>:( but I am digressing...)

Now, it is still showing the error.
I then click cancel, then it shows a 1706 error,
I click cancel again.
Finally the Sywareblaster page comes up as before and allows for smooth database updating.

If otoh, I obey the message and offer the Resource CD, It'll run it, extract and do as it pleases, after which it lets me return to Spywarblaster.

Problem is, it now CONTINOUSLY is asking for the CD!! :(

Performed a search and came up with this thread from July 2005, which is virtually identical to my problem, but a solution does not seem to have been found: (nothing found on JavaCool's Spywareblaster forum)
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=88333&highlight=dell+resource+error+1706

My system:
Dell Core 2 duo Laptop (Jan, 10, 2007)
Windows XP Media Center
Avira AV
Winpatrol
Spybot Search & Destroy
ThreatFire

Curiously it also (always) did it on another (much older- 2001) dell computer: ???
XP Pro
Kaspersky
Winpatrol
Spybot Search & destroy
SpywareGuard

Rickk

Hello,

try running Windows Installer CleanUp Utility,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

It usually fixes these types of issues.

Dear Snowbound,

Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortuneatly it didn't change anything.

Went to Javacool's FAQ "Search" base again.
Although no solution existed for the specific problem I was having above, decided to go ahead and try downloading the 2 files Javacool suggest on this http://www.wilderssecurity.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1124673 page anyways.

The first one was of no help.
The 2nd one solved it!

Go figure...
:)
