Anyone here using Outpost 2008?

i find it strange that no one is talking about it here?

From wat u know is 2008 way better than 4.0? and good firewall against Comodo 3.0 and other great firewalls?

I use it and love it. Very effective and has low resource usage. I prefer it to the free ones like online armour and comodo 3 and it works brilliantly alongside nod32 and SAS Pro.

is it much easier to use than other version of outpost?

more user friendly for novices?

I tried it and its way to secure for its own good. After installing it browsing slowed down by 100%. Went back to Comodo 3.0

chaos16

so u would say its not as good as its to secure.

so not a lot of ppl really talk about this version hmm

the thing is i don't like Comodo 3.0 and i don't know which firewall i can use that is user friendly really easy to use and really good against leaktest, hackers, blocking all sort of malaware etc...

As long as you are trying them out, you could try ZoneAlarm Security Suite (different versions for XP and Vista; get the right one). It's not free, but it is very intuitive to configure and not overly intrusive nor resource hogging.

As for blocking malware ... Nothing replaces good old common sense. That, along with a good browser (like Firefox) and a firewall that dynamically identifies programs that access the internet, can go a long ways toward safe computing.

is very buggy, have a look at their support forums.. and take a trial before buying! (also backup your whole system, becuase it will most likely crash it)

Try it yourself.............browsing slows to a crawl and all ads are blocked.

Firefox with the AdBlockPlus add-on + the EasyListUSA subscription + a couple of customizations (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2591360) will block ads most effectively.

is the free firewall of online armour good enough and works great alongside Avast?

It does the best for leaktest in default settings

i will remove ThreatFire as it hasn't done anything for me yet hehe

chaos16,

Contrary to the other comments in this thread, on Win XP, I think Outpost 2008 is extremely fast, lightweight and stable. This is actually the fastest version of Outpost I have ever used.

Have used trial versions in the past but they always seemed to slow down browsing, on-line games, etc. Outpost 2008 is a complete new code rewrite. There are a few bugs, but was so impressed, I bought a copy. Below is a link on how I configured Outpost 2008 to make it work the way I wanted it to work:

http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21895

Hope this helps.

OMG what are you talking about. I played with it for 2 hours and dumped it. All ads blocked. All browsing slowed down. Some sites never would even open.

Vettetech,

I think a lot of the problems people are having with Outpost 2008 is because of the Web Control feature. This feature also handles the ad blocking. I agree and think this feature is very buggy. Agnitum definitely has some work left to do on the Web Control.

In the link attached to my original post, you will see that I disabled the Web Control feature. I have better/other alternatives to Web Control.

Anyway, I am sorry Outpost 2008 did not work out for you. I am not trying to convince you or anyone else to try it. Only sharing my experience and in the link above how I configured it to make it work for me. I thought perhaps this might be helpful to others who might have a license for or be interested in Outpost 2008.

Set it and forget all programs should be.

I've tried Outpost 2008. However, I found it too bulky and inefficient.

I continue to use Outpost Firewall Pro 4. Though I wish I could view and edit every single rule which it automatically creates. Outpost Pro, eventually, replaced my Sygate firewall solution...

{QUOTE-> Set it and forget all programs should be. <-QUOTE}I agree. I also read the RealResults link to the OP forum. No one should have to go through all that. :-[ When I got my LifeTime License I thought I was really getting the deal of the decade. :-[

The best version is the one I have now, which is the one I bought or the version right before it. :(

I tried it, but it was too buggy right now for me. I went back to Outpost Firewall Pro 4 and things are running smooth again. I think it will be nice when they finally get the bugs worked out.

I just wanted to add that I have ditched Comodo 3 in favour of Outpost 2008. It runs very fast and is stable - had no problems at all.

A new release was released recently that fixes the problems that plagued the previous version.

Its learning mode is great too. :thumb:

I did the same, tried online armour and comodo and am sticking with outpost.

Outpost 2008 is buggy because it bases on totally new architecture. IMO in 2-3 months it will be stable.

I've used earlier versions of Outlook and found it a sound product. But when my license ran out I went to other products (i.e. Suites). One of them was KIS. This product worked well for a while until my C drive partition filled up (but that's another story).

Now I'm trialing Outpost 2008 and so far it seems stable but, is it my imagination, but do the screens look haunting like those used in KIS? Almost looks like trade mark infringement?

Has Agnitum built their new product around KIS? Is this KIS with a Agnitum veneer? Or is KIS using Agnitum as their firewall? Who's product is Agnitum using for the Malware component?

Any insight would be appreciated

yup i hoped that with V4.x, but every build was worse than the last.. i had a 2year license (still got more than 6months left on it) but was stuck to using v3.51.

then tried 2008, and omg i dont think im allowed to use the words i want to use on this forum that would describe it.

i would advise you use acronis true image/ghost before you instal outpost! and also make sure to trial it before purchasing, as agnitum WILL not refund a penny for their dodgy software

Always glad to help when I really have something to offer. As you can see in my sig I am using old version of OutPost but am considering replacing with the WebRoot FW. Just give it a try and keep if I like it. Already down loaded but did not install yet. I do see increased horror stories here and other places for the OP 2008, which I have not tried. :-\

What are the bugs with the latest Outpost? Is it a stability problem primarily? Or is it too strict and people are having all sorts of problems connecting to the net?

For me just to name a few things it slows me down, hangs and just did not work as well as other firewalls I have used...oh yes and later versions were heavy on my limited RAM. Sometimes it seemed to forget my application permissions, not as bad as ZoneAlarm on that issue however.

I have used it on both PC 1 and PC 2 with similar results so for me it was not specfic to one machine. This is unsual for me as most of the things I try will work better on one machine or the other. :-\

I have yet to find a firewall I really like that much.

I am having a similar problem finding a firewall I like and I need a Vista compatability as well. Not easy meeting the Vista need too.

Great release. Works perfectly with nod32 and SAS Pro. Find it to be just as effective and less resource intensive compared to OA and Comodo on winxp.
