GDATA Antivirus 2008: Which scanning engines?

Hi,

Does anyone know which versions of Bitdefender and Kasperesly does Antivirus 2008 uses?

I am interrested in buying Kaspersky7 but if GDATA Antivirus already uses the latest engine in addition to the latest engine from bitdefender, then I will buy it instead, because this sounds like double the protection.

Hi Alouf & welcome :)

GDAV 2008 uses the kaspersky and avast engines. GData stopped using bitdefender engine on its 2006 version.

G-DAta is very good, but it lags even dual core computer far worse than norton which is already a resource hog. Make sure you have a lot memory to spare then. I tried a trial of it & went back to kaspersky.

Yes it is. Keep in mind it is the engine and not all the extras like in KAV 7.

AFAIK engine versions in terms of Kaspersky are not entirely clear. For example ZoneAlarm AV uses many components from Kaspersky branded as version 7.0 [Kaspersky's device drivers] but the detection rate remains the same as 6.0 :)

I do not think GDATA AVK has the KAV 7 heuristic engine, because no other KAV clone has it. Also, given the close relationship between F-Secure and Kaspersky, I would expect F-Secure to be the first to use this technology if Kaspersky had made it available to partners ;)

I suppose this is because GDATA may consider business target different: Efficient protection that works silently, is fast, has decent detection rates and does not produce a significant amount of false positives. :)

because with f-prot and avast it is lighter and faster than with kaspersky.

i thought buisinesses would choose detection over how silently/fast it runs.

1 nasty could lose a company thousands of pounds. (or maybe yen? :) )

f-prot + avast has very probably higher detection rates than most other single-engine products (according to someone [no, not me this time] it scores nearly as high as KAV+Avast). being light and fast is also welcome for business products.

its the combination of the engines which makes them "powerful". If avast detects thing that are already covered by KAV, while fprot detects mainly things that avast does not cover, at the end both combinations may score similar.

It is because the kav engine does not support multithreading.

I asked the representative in our Country. Although I didn' think he was very trustworthy.
