We've just gone through an incident that has me wondering about email. Is there any way to prevent a person from receiving an email and then changing the entire text?

On another forum, a new poster came aboard and my wife sent an email greeting her, as well as greeting her on the forum. Well, it turns out this woman is, to be nice, borderline insane. Within a week, she was posting some very strange things.

A few days ago, we got a warning from our server about harassing and abusive emails. On the days the supposed abusive email was sent, we weren't home so couldn't have sent it. This psycho has her own discussion board with MSN groups. Another person we know contacted us stating that the psycho woman had posted on her board that "the stalkers were caught and were being dealt with" along with our ISP number and my wife's email address.

We immediately contacted our server via telephone and discovered that the entire body of my wife's only email to this woman had been altered to include threats, foul language, etc.

It's all straightened out now, and the woman's server has booted her. But, I'm left wondering if there's a way to prevent such a thing from happening short of just not using email. Is there some sort of software that won't allow an email to be changed? It cost us 2 hours on the phone with our server, changing my wife's email address, and then having to notify a large number of friends, family, and business contacts of the change.
