I downloaded ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 (Windows XP) two times and it will not open. I get the following message after download:
WINDOWS INSTALLER- This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package. No tech support is currently available to address this problem since it is the weekend. Very unhappy I purchased this product. Need some help. Thanks.
Thankful

Did you have another version of NOD32 on your computer prior to the new version?
Is Windows Installer running on your machine?

Just followed your advice from your previous post and changed setting to automatic. Will try downloading program again. Still living in the dark ages with dial up so it will take a while to see what happens. Wish me luck and thanks so much.

Try again.
You should download NOD32 from here:
http://www.eset.com/download/registered_software.php
Make sure you download NOD32 3.0 Antivirus , NOT Smart Security.
Make sure you enter your Username and Password correctly.

What does service status say?
It says 'start'. Internet Explorer now comes up with the message:
Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience...
Going to try to download one more time with Netscape browser.

You should right click the windows installer entry in services ,then click properties and under general tab set startup type to automatic.By the way i also had problems initially with nods .msi installer.Youve probably never had any problems before because the programs you were installing were .exe files rather than .msi filesThe problem is not with nods .msi installer but usually with the pc.Sometimes windows installer is not enabled or a newer version is required.Sometimes registry gets coruppted and the installer needs to be re regisrered..

PS. Yesterday I went to 'My Computer' and then to 'Add or remove programs'. I got the following message: "RESTICTIONS" This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. Is this why I can't install the program?

I'm running this problem by a friend on the phone and he says it appears as if my ability to access 'user account' has been removed. Any ideas of what I can do?

Hi,
we'll try to run installer as administrator. Please do as follow:
1. Click on Start > Run
2. Enter "runas /user:localmachinename\administrator cmd"
(without quotes)
please replace:
"localmachinename" with your current PC's name.
"administrator" - keep it, we asume admin account's username have not been modified.
3. When asked for password... write nothing... i hope your Windows install have blank admin password.
4. Once in MSDOS shell as an administrator... go to folder where EAV installer is. (old school msdos commands :) )
5. When you get to the folder ... just type EAV installer file name (eav_nt32_enu.msi) + hit ENTER key.
6. You should see EAV install process begin.
