-{ Quote: "Here is a possible partial workaround :
the view workgroup computers problem seems to arise whenever the computer
running ESS is elected as master browser. If another computer on the network
(not running ESS) is elected as master browser, then it works fine.
Thus you can try this :
edit your registry as follows :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters
MaintainServerList=No

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters
IsDomainMaster=FALSE

I also disabled the computer browser service.

This does not solve entirely the problem :
if the computer with ESS is the only one connected to the network, then there is no master browser, and so you get an error if you try to view workgroup computers.
And if you have several computers running ESS on the network, that might be even more complicated.

But it solved the problem in other cases, at least for me.

All I have to do is disable the Computer Browser service on mine. As long as the other computer that is running EAV is on it works fine. Of course I can't view the workgroup on the ESS computer with the other one shut off but that's no big deal.

Yes Stueycaster, you're right, no need to edit the registry.
Thanks

Example:Setting to avoid "View workgroup computers" Error

"PETH" is the NIC(physical network adapter).

PETH property:
"Client for Microsoft Networks" is ON.
"File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is ON.
"ESET Personal Firewall" is ON.
"Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)
IP address : 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.254

At first, you must change the parameter PETH.

PETH property:
"Client for Microsoft Networks" is OFF.
"File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is OFF.
"ESET Personal Firewall" is ON.
"Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)
IP address : 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.2

Next, you must make the Microsoft Loopback Adapter.

"LETH" is the Microsoft Loopback Adapter.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839013/en-us

LETH property:
"Client for Microsoft Networks" is ON.
"File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is ON.
"Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)
IP address : 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.254

(* Microsoft Loopback Adapter doesn't have "ESET Personal Firewall" option.)

Try! to setup a bridge connection between PETH and LETH.

"BETH" is the Bridge Adapter.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816486/en-us

You can change the parameter BETH.
(It is't essential)

BETH property:
"Client for Microsoft Networks" is ON.
"File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is ON.
"ESET personal Firewall" is OFF.
"Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)
IP address : 192.168.1.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.254

Hi,

Can you please confirm if the fix has been released yet for Smart Security?

I have been using NOD32 Home Edition and Comodo Firewall as a temporary measure (which I don't get on with).

I'm about to re-install Windows XP Pro on 2 PC's and wondering what to install.

Sorry if I've missing something.

Many thanks,

Steve.

Hello!

Mayth mentions version 3.0.637 which is not a public version , just for internal ESET testing . When new version arrives public , the so called change will be included in the new installer (version) . New public version(s) are introduced on ESET web-site eset.com and here

After you installed the new one did you wait a while before you tried the network? Network changes take time. When I first installed it didn't work. Then I rebooted then waited 15 minutes and it worked.

With this version ESS is now working perfectly in my computer. I applied the settings found in Blackspear's EAV tutorial to the antivirus. I did notice a very slight slowdown but that's ok because now my virus security is very tight. I didn't use the 2 settings that would really slow it down though. Since I started using ESET products 3 years ago I haven't had a single malware infection.

Thank you ESET. This program has become all that I expected from you. Good job. :thumb:

Yes. I have re-enabled the Computer Browser service on my (ESS) computer. Now we can start and restart my wife's laptop (EAV) without breaking the view workgroup link. Before when we would start her computer with mine already running the workgroup link would always fail.

I can't guarantee anything but it is working correctly for us.

Today I'm going to buy my wife a new laptop and take over using her old one. First her old one will get ESS and if it still keeps working right her new one will get it too. I'm planning to get into the Remote Desktop thing since I'll have exclusive use of her old one.

Her new one will have Vista initially and if she likes it we will probably leave it that way. We'll find out about ESS on Vista. If she doesn't like it I have an unused XP Home license to install on it.

ESS will get a good test. People here will surely know the results.

I got my wife her new laptop. Hooking it up to the network went without a hitch. All 3 are showing up in the view workgroup link.

I set up the Remote Desktop on my computer with either of the other 2 computers accessing it. That went without a hitch too.

The new laptop came with McAfee installed so I uninstalled that and now the trial version of EAV is running on Vista home Premium. I haven't noticed any thing amiss there either.

I'm doing a scan while writing this post on the new laptop. I don't notice any lagging at all. That's way cool. this is our first dual core processor. It just finished the scan in 19 minutes. Of course there is hardly anything in this computer yet.

I'm really happy with the way things are going here. I'll let you know of any further developments.

I tried restart OS.But it is not improvement occurs.

I was seeing list of "workgroup" after a few tries.
But I need wait much times.(2,3 minute).

I tried another router.
Then worked without problem.(2,3 sec)
Probably it will be compatibility issues.

Thanks a lot.
