Hello,

I have managed to destroy a file ...

I was working on a document, writing in OpenOfficer Portable, from a USB key. After having completed the file, I saved it to PDF, with encryption against copying and editing and all that. However, I managed to overwrite my odt file, by saving the PDF over it.

The damage is not heavy, as I have the original document back home, minus some of the last changes ... plus the subject was more of a fun - Design of Experiment article about a 2k full-factorial experiment aimed to determine the influence of AV, firewall and RAM size on boot and scan times ... I intended to post it on my site soon ...

The article is all done and well - but I no longer have the blueprint, so to say.

So ...

1. Does anyone know of a good way to recover the file? I'm not sure if it's possible, as I have overwritten it with a nice encrypted PDF.

2. Does anyone know of a good software - not the standard screenshot crap - that could possible recover the data from the PDF and convert it back to the odt format, saving me 2-3 hours of rewriting the little thingies.

If nothing can be done, I'll prolly upload the document as it is, but then all typos and such will be permanent ...

Mrk

I'd try PC INSPECTOR File Recovery (http://www.pcinspector.de/default.htm?Language=1). It allowed me to rescue some data from clients' machines.
It's Windows-based.

i don't think it's possible to recover it. not that i know anything about that type of PDF, but i remember reading about them and the whole point is to make that kind of thing impossible.
