local proxy

Hi I've been looking at messages in this forum to help the decision about whetehr to upgrade fro 2.7 to 3.

I've seen reference to v3 using a local proxy - presumably version 2.7 doesn't?

I don't really understand how a local proxy works - will it interfere with my antispam (Cloudmark) or antispyware (Superantispyware) sotware?

Probably not. But I do not like local proxys. I llike AVs that do not create Proxy servers. But it seems that all the top AVs. are now going the route of creating Proxy servers. That being said Maybe we should jsut bite the bullet & go with the flow. Sooner or later we will probably either install an AV that uses a Poroxy server & I suppose that the sooner we find out that it works or does not is probably better than waiting.

when Marcos explained ages ago that the modules IMON etc, would be going away, I kind of assumed that proxy would be the direction it wouild be headed... as mentioned, all top AVs go this way, and I think they do that for good reasons - ie, it's a nice workable solution, and it's less prone to being broken on the network side than the previous method of inserting into the network stack.... but perhaps we'll get some official word...

A local proxy acts as a "filter" between your system and the Internet. Some proxy's only filter e-mail and some filter web traffic as well. Neither will interfere with SUPERAntiSpyware.

Is it correct that version 3 has moved to using a local proxy setup? If so, does the setup process warn of this at any stage? What does it do? How is it different? How does it impact on other email/internet software?

It's more transparent. Installing a LSP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layered_Service_Provider) might lead to problems (you're hooking the network stack, which is very sensitive)

But look to slow down internet speed and take a lot of cpu time....
With Nod3 I drop in speed test 5Mbit/s to 2 Mbit/s.... >:( :thumbd:

With HTTP checking disabled, this one seems pretty close to reality --> HERE (http://willtech.servehttp.com/speedtest.htm)

But perhaps the most accurate I've found regardless of other settings is this FTP speedtest --> HERE (http://web.aanet.com.au/files/ftpspeedtest.bat?)
