I want to see how they are and Adobe had an exploit in it and I don't see anything for a patch for it.

Sumatra PDF (http://blog.kowalczyk.info/software/sumatrapdf/). Even smaller and faster.

Theres also PDF XChange Viewer (http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_user/pdfx_viewer/) if you want yet another alternative.

After having tried out all, PDF X Change Viewer seems to be the best, it recognizes and uses multiple CPU if your system has them, it handles heavy image PDF files far better than the rest.

I like PDF-Xchange better than the Foxit Reader too. :)

(If anyone is interested in PDF creation, my free PDF creator of choice is now BullZip. Several nice features! http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php )

Never heard of XChange... wil give it a try...
If anyone is interest, the best mobile pdf reader I've tried is "Pocket X PDF"
And for creating PDF I use pdf creator.

If I e-mail a PDF Xchange document to someone who only has Adobe PDF Reader, can they read my document on their PDF reader?

Tried Fox-It and never liked it. Changed to PDF-XChange Viewer and it just works flawlessly.

I just installed PDF Xchange while in virtual Returnil, to see what it's like. I think it's great. Does anyone know how much disk space it takes? Adobe 8 takes 85 MB. If it turns out to be enough of an improvement over Adobe, I'll install it for real.:)

If i remember correctly, it was good, more features than Foxit, but heavier (Foxit is lightest i've seen, 1-3 seconds to open). However, there are pdf's that Foxit doesn't open. Never tried Sumatra.

PDF Xchange loads here in <3 sec.s.
I thought it would be slower than Foxit (which I ran here for a while), but I was pleasantly surprised.
If you need speed, look at GSView. Loads in <1 sec.

Different versions perhaps? It hardly loaded (i mean fully loaded, not just show up) under 3 secs.
Is GSView GhostScript GUI?

Curious. Ver 1.00 (build 0022) here.
{QUOTE-> Is GSView GhostScript GUI? <-QUOTE}
Yes. Though technically "free", it has a modest nag screen (I'm a registered user).
It used to be my sole pdf viewer, now I only use it for it's other features (conversion to vector, text extraction, etc.)

I installed PDF X Change Reader and made it the default PDF app. without uninstalling Adobe 8 reader. Ever since, my computer shuts down 8 seconds faster. Adobe must be a drag on the system.:P

Methinks you have other issues.

Sumatra is less than a MB, has no nag screens, opens instantaneously and is distributed under GPLv2 license.

Sumatra is very good and I have a copy of it in a USB stick. But it isn't feature rich and PDF X-change Viewer has better rendering quality according to my eyes :)
Both have their places:
- Simple, small, speedy, no nonsense PDF reader = Sumatra.
- Feature-rich, fast, slightly more advanced PDF reader = PDF X-change Viewer.
IMO, PDF X-change Viewer + Ghostscript + GSView + PDF printer (IMO, the best are PDF Creator and Bullzip) = complete solution for all PDF needs under Windows environment.

PDF X Change viewer is another one of those programs that doesn't work properly with (some) Logitech mice. The page scrolls the wrong way with the mouse wheel.

lucas1985

That occurs with or without SetPoint (Logitech's software suite) installed?

I don't use Logitech software. This is usually not a problem with 99% of software but some developers use particular mouse code that breaks normal wheel operation. It may be a problem with other mice as well but I've heard that it's a specific problem with Logitech mice.

Using Logitech's "Notebook optical mouse plus+", with SetPoint installed...no such problem here...

Moreover, pdf-xchange is afaik the only PDF reader (adobe except) with the full search pdf feature (not just the find feature, but a real search, where all the results are displayed in a window in the right side).

This feature is usefull for me, that's why I am using pdf-xchange since a while.

I can't use any of these alternatives, my bank forces me to use Adobe, otherwise no bank statements. Adobe is such a bloatware and it doesn't even have a default folder to store .pdf-files.

I wonder how your bank forces you to use Acrobat Reader ???

Before I print my bank statements, my bank checks if I have Acrobat Reader or not.
If I don't have AR on my computer, I get a link to install it.
Once I have it installed, the printing starts and then I can save the pdf-file on my computer.
Then I have to confirm that it was successful or not, if not I can do it all over again.

Surely you can put another reader on your system alongside Acrobat and set the other as the default one?

My bank does not put any restrictions on me. I just d/l the ofx file. Don't even need javascript.

Two softwares for one job ? That is a waste of space. Then I prefer to keep Acrobat Reader.
I keep my bank, it has a very safe login procedure that makes any keylogger/thief desperate. :)

That's what I did. I am using PDF-Xchange as my default reader while retaining AR on file (not sure how long). PDF-Xchange Reader has an option in the set up for that.

I could not get FoxIt to print some documents. Have no idea why, but Adobe works well. I uninstalled FoxIt.

As I said earlier, I tried PDF-Exchange and I like it. Someone else earlier in this thread mentioned they didn't like FoxIt either. You can run AR and PDF-E together until you decide what you want to do. PDF-E is light on resources. AR is 86mb and PDF-E is 11mb.
