Is there anyway of changing the settings so you can store the virus definitions on an unfrozen partition or will I have to install the entire program on the partition?

It's going to need to be on the same partition. Update files are stored within the program directory and there's no way to change the location.

I believe you could use the Faronics mapping tool (http://www.faronics.com/html/dfmappt.asp) to map the definitions folder to an unfrozen partition.
