Barking Computer

i found an older thread that said something about Win Patrol being the reason for the barking, but it wouldn't let me respond to it saying the post was too old.

anyway, i don't have Win Patrol installed onto my pc. I do have Windows Defender, and i check it's settings. It doesn't have any options for enabling or disabling sound notification in the event of any changes.

does anyone know what causes the barking sound?

An IM program, probably AIM.

i don't have aim open. and my other instant message programs don't have a wav. or anything similar.

Try doing a search for *.wav files on your computer...start simple while looking through found files ie bark/barking. the next step can more difficult as the name could be meaningless and you will have to play each sound regardless of name. Hopefully you can narrow it down some more. Also you can keep tak manager open and watch for change when dog barking occurs. Good Luck.

You can prolly narrow thesearch by specifying files less than 100 kb, I'd imagine it's small unless it barks for a long time.

AIM has a barking sound? Never found that in the program. ???

How often does it bark? How often in between Barking? These are just questions we wonder. Beyond that you can get process explorer here

Leave it open If time frame between barking is not extremely long as in sometimes barks...you should see the programs usage increase in process explorer's main panel when barking occurs.

Hi folks this might not be a computer related problem. Just for checking: Did your dog or any for that mather youv come in contact with recently passed away? He might be trying to come back virtually. Have a look here: http://www.aaevp.com/

it doesn't bark all the time, maybe like once a week. but i'll try the link and let you know how that works.

Anyway, try to isolate what is running when you hear the barking noise. Process Explorer will provide the list of active processes for you to examine. Also as a recommendation, try repeating the same steps that preceded the barking noise and see if it recurs (such as going to the same webpage or loading a particular program).

My computer also barks like the original poster explained. It used to sound like a fog horn, and now its changed to the bark. Anyone ever find the source??

I suspect its AIM, but it happens so infrequently and I use AIM for my business so I can't just close it.

Afair it's an IM prog announcing someone on your contacts just arrvd, lft or is opening the frig. It's a sound associated with a particular contact(s).

That's odd. My AIM has a creaking door sound when a contact joins the system and a door slamming sound when a contact goes offline.
