I was searching to enhance my cleaning setup, and I found this freeware application to clean folders that contain temporary files: Empty Temp Folders.
link (http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/emptemp/)
It sound quite interesting, it includes an automatic feature and doesn't install itself on the OS.
Cleanup is always a sensitive area, so I was wondering if anybody has had any experience in running it.

I use it on some Win98 systems. Works well.

Have you tried the Crud Cleaner which has a title of Ccleaner. Numerous postings on this forum.

Or ATF cleaner, recommended by some HJT analysts.

You could just open |Search| and enter *.tmp,*.chk,~*.*
This will bring up all your temp files and you can delete 'em. I have this as a "pre-set" in Locate32.

screamer, would you be so kind as to give me clearer directions on how to do this in Locate32? It sounds like a great solution but I am a bit lost :)

Not to wander off topic topic too much but does anyone know the accuracy in the statement that some tmp files can also double as an executable or/and process? I run into this many times in my research with badware files.
Now back: I routinely use these on any installs/reinstalls and won't be without them for temp cleanups.

DiskCleaner (http://www.diskcleaner.nl/)
-{ Quote: " Disk Cleaner is a free open source tool to quickly and easily clean your hard disk from temporary files like those in the system temporary folder, the Internet Explorer Cache and Cookies folder, and the Recycle Bin. Disk Cleaner is absolutely free from adware and spyware.
Disk Cleaner was inspired by one of the system tools that can be found in Windows 98. As I was running Windows 95 myself those days, and upgrading my machine to 98 was not an option, I decided to write such a tool myself. However, Windows 98+ users may find that Disk Cleaner is smaller and faster, and one of its virtues is the ability to run quietly, i.e. on startup. This means that you can clear the cache every time you boot Windows.
Disk Cleaner is focused on ease of use, speed and a small size, both when downloading and when installed (the installation file is just over 360 kb). It is fast, since the crucial parts are written with just the plain Windows API giving high search and remove performance. Disk Cleaner is also entirely self-contained: no other (large) DLLs are necessary to run the application, so it can even be run from a floppy without trouble. Handy to remove your junk from public machines." }-

I like empty temp.folders and would like it even more if it included the registry.
However, given some, perhaps encourages one to want more.

There almost that many reg. cleaners and solutions as there are reg. entries, but which solution is the safest and most reliable or is safe and reliable is still a question yet to be answered.

They're just spoofing the extension. Check with an hex editor and you'll see the MZ "magic byte"
