AVP 3.5 or DrWeb 4.30a ?

Hello !
I'm reading the topics here for more than a year.
I have a question for you...
AVP 3.5 or DrWeb 4.30a ?
Which one of the above offers a better protection ?

I tried many antivirus programs and I like these two better than others.They are running without problems and slowdowns in my relatively old PC.

( I'm currently using a free trial
of DrWeb and I'm very pleased with it.)
I want to run only one antivirus program in my PC
and possibly TrojanHunter for protection from trojans,
if it is needed as I know that both AVP and DrWeb
are good at this also...

And welcolm to wilders. I run both of these programs on 2 of my boxes here, both as the primary AV scanner. I have run AVP for over 4 years now, and Dr Web for about 15 months and I am very pleased with both of them.

Both are top notch AV programs which will give you excellent protection.

AVP will probably give you better all round protection against viruses AND trojans and has a better unpacking engine. Dr Web has a specific POP3 e-mail scanner, which AVP does not have. Further, if you use The Bat for your e-mail, again Dr Web has an excellent plugin for this e-mail client.

The number of false positives given by Dr Web is I feel a little exagerated and are generally easy to spot. In addition, they can be checked with a backup(on-line) scanner.

Overall, therefore there is very little between them. It is a very difficult decision which will probably end up with you deciding which one you like the best.

Long term, AVP will be 'getting long in the tooth' but the release of KAV 5 in early/mid next year may be another factor to consider. And you can use your present AVP key-file for the new version.

Consider that the heuristic of Dr.Web is better than AVP/KAV.

DrWeb's False positives are not a big problem for me
and I don't find e-mail scanner a must have (which AVP hasn't got)

i wonder if u can run drweb and avp at the same time..i guess not, but is it possible to run drwebs email scanner (spiderguard disabled) and avp at the same time ?

Yes, runs fine on one of my boxes (with KAV 4.x though, but I guess 3.5 should make no difference)...and with email malware the good DrWeb heuristics engine is a plus :).

Karl, really?? - can u run drweb and kav real time scanner at the same time??

i just tried this. avp wont start at all as long as drweb is installed, the system just freezes. i tried with both drweb and avp running at startup, avp+spidermail only, and avp alone with drweb installed but nothing running...all caused the same freezes. ive tried the same with kav4.5 earlier, same ting happened

drweb runs happily tho, with avp or kav installed as long as no avk/kav components run at startup

Of course only one on-access component resident at the same time, but spidermail runs fine alongside with other av. At least on my system...

What is the use of a dedicated e-mail scanner ????
Monitor scans every file that you download or open,
isn't it ?

DrWeb found Eicarcom2.zip file to be infected (that is a zip file inside a zip file) as I was downloading it.
Not even trying to open it...

(Some other antivirus programs can't do this)
