Carbonite Online PC Backup

Has anyone tried this form of backup and what are your opinions concerning its security and reliability?

I know Leo Laporte likes this (computer guy on the radio).

1. If you can't connect to the internet restore/backup fail.
2. Price
3. If Carbonite went bankrupt, problems maybe?

Online backup seems to be becoming more popular as, Acronis, Intuit are or will soon be offering onlin BU's

For myself I would not use the service.

I've used Mozy (http://www.mozy.com) for about a year now and have had no problem at all with it. I use the free 2GB version but unlimited is only $4.95 per month.

I've only had to retrieve some files on a couple of occasions but that went fine. I certainly wouldn't use it as my only backup but it is an easy and cheap way to store data off-site. If they go bust and shut down then you've still got your other forms of backup haven't you ;) .

Nexstar, are you also using Acronis on same machine?

If so, didn't you experience any incompatibility between Mozy and Acronis in their low level chain of filters for Windows file system drivers ?

I don't think I've ever had them both installed on the same PC, sorry.

I guess you could ask Acronis and Mozy if they know of any issues and, if not, make an image with ATI before trying out Mozy.

I'm still happy to recommend Mozy though :) . Let us know how you get on.
