I'm looking for a reliable on demand malware scanner to pair with KIS7. Preferably free.

Any recomendations?

SuperAntiSpyware

I have tried BD 10 free version. If I remember correctly it requires running processes even when not being used to scan. When I disabled those processes there was an attempted outbound connection from what was in quarantine. Fortunately, the only thing in quarantine at the time was backweb.

If you are looking for an av scanner-BitDefender free.
If you are looking for an antispyware scanner-A-Squared,AVG AntiSpyware, and SUPERAntiSpyware are good free scanners.

My two on demand:

SAS (paid) cheap, good, fast, good support.
I dont use real time services.
No overheads if not real time.
"Exit" shuts it down completely.

Avira Personal Classic: http://www.free-av.com/
Has all the full scan power of arguably the best paid for AV/antimalware tool: see the AVC reports.
Has services running which are easily stopped when not needed.
Can disable "nag" screeny.
Never really had a problem of any consequence.
GoodGreat support for a free product.

When configured right it shuts down fully at exit.
Config is a bit of a pain as the services need to be restarted to update and run scan.
But a consistently outstanding series of results in any comparisons which is why I put up with the fiddly bits.

ALSO:
I saw a very postive review of ESET's new online scanner:
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
Said to be very fast
I haven't done any testing with this yet, but if you just want an on demand with no real overheads.
oops, forgot: needs IE and ActiveX....if you want...
Doesn't check for rootkits

Check the Ewido forum for discussion re AVG/Ewido free and configuring for on demand scans.

Trend also has online scanning or used to: haven't been there in a while.
I'm sure there are other online scans available.

I previously had BD but found the config for O-D only to be a bit of a pain.

If you want to get seriously techie : Knoppix , Bart's PE, UBCD etc.

Good Luck.

If I were you, SUPERAntiSpyware should be the best choice (for me).
