Can anyone recommend any good Real-time antispyware programs (preferably freeware)?

If you are looking for a free realtime anti-spyware, most of the people here are going to recommend either BOClean or Spyware Terminator.
Remember, you get a lot more from what you pay ;)
Thats why I bought SAS Pro for real-time anti-spyware. :)

If it's freeware you're looking for, SpywareTerminator comes to mind. It has optional HIPS and integrated AV (ClamWin) that works fine with resident AV-scanner.

There is also ThreatFire from PC-Tools (free/pay)

If the lifetime license for SuperAntiSpyware is available that is a very reasonable cost for a real time application that is excellent, and runs well with other security applications.

I have not used the free ones enough to be able to offer advice.

I am now using Spyware Terminator - downloading BOClean and Threatfire (will try them later).

Can you give pros and cons for each? (In terms of resource usage, and effectiveness)

Also, I am using Avast antivirus and Windows Defender's real time protection. I am looking for another antispyware with real-time protection that will complement these two (or will be a good alternative to Windows Defender).

Some questions about Spyware Terminator:

Should I also enable its antivirus, ClamAV?
Should HIPS be enabled (and will this affect system resources/internet bandwidth)?
Should the 'ignore minor updates' box be unchecked?
Edit: Is it OK for ST to run with Windows Defender?

If you already have Avast running, enabling ClamAV isn't necessary.

Enabling HIPS is recommended (I don't know if it affects system resource or internet bandwidth, but I think it shouldn't be.)

It's up to you, but I would leave it checked.

Not recommended.Better to stay with one real-time antispyware and avoid possible conflicts.

Pick one that you like the most between BOClean,WD,and ST.

Just tried Spyware Terminator and it found 43 entries ( in reality one program) which showed as no problem with AVG, SuperAntispyware and A-Squared.
I'm 99.9999% sure that this is a false positive I found the reporting option quite
useful - will see in 3 working days how well they react.

We'll hear back from you in 3 days?

LongView: how about 1 day?

If you give me a screenshot of the detection, I can determine if its a FP, submit it, and get it removed before 9AM EST tomorrow.

Add Spyware Blaster if you haven't already. Also Spybot S&D for imunization. I mainly rely on the A/S in my KIS for realtime but use Windows Defender + the 2 I mentioned above to strengthen my protection.

Won't any of them complement another one? If I am correct, ThreatFire uses behavior based detection, won't these complement BOClean or ST's signature based detections, or will this conflict?

I'd go with SpywareTerminator.

Hi,folks: For now, I would select ST. Why? There is one member here constantly monitoring its issues and report its solution back in no time. Where else and which else can you get this kind of top-notched service from? For that reason, users of ST have a 100% backup and can most of the time sleep well at night. :)

Make sure to use CBoc exclusion list for TF & ST. Have used all 3, but not at the same time. Interesting to see if all 3 played nicely together....

2 hours to go before the 3 working days are up - I had the impression that Spyware Terminator had a good reputation for replying ---- just remembered --it's Labor day in the US -- is this where they are located ?

I've found the "report false positive" in the actual program following a scan works, but you do not get a reply. At some stage following the report the FP (if it is a FP) is removed.
The faster way to get a response is to report it in the appropriate forum section.Tokar then reports it directly to the developers, and if there is some doubt over it being a FP, you end up with a few users offering their experience/wisdom/opinion etc.
Interestingly, a look at that part of the forum shows most of the posts prefixed with "[FIXED]".

Same effect on this end. I keep ST on some FD-ISR snapshots "AND" even other single drives in combo with say a DSA and don't find any problems or forced intrusions from internet surfings, plus for me anyway, i take great satisfaction in it's Real-Time Activity Monitor Display. It's timed PERFECTLY enough so that you can personally evaluate dll's, libraries loading etc. with a simple glance of them.

A big plus for tech-heads like myself, and a dependable interceptor (HIPS) for even the novice of security seekers.

In terms of resource usage, does Windows Defender consume the most? I have now disabled WD thinking that it uses the most system resources.

I am now running Threatfire and ST without any problems.

Thanks to help from Tokar scanning with Spyware Terminator now shows a clean machine - with the FP removed. Very impressive.

Does Windows Defender, ThreatFire and Spyware Terminator's real time protections protect the same areas of the system? Or are there some areas of the system that WD protects from and ST or TF doesn't and vice versa?

Is it OK to enable all of their real-time protections to protect against the areas that one doesn't protect, or will their protections just overlap each other?

I recommend A-Squared Anti-Mallware-has Intrusion Detection Systems that can
detect hidden trojans & spyware, hidden process, rootkits. It has the best realtime protection of all antispyware to me.8)
