Just installed ESS Beta2 on my system (Windows XP x64 Edition) for the first time. Looks really good so far - I just have one issue with my E-Mail.
In Outlook 2003, I have a POP3 E-Mail Address, and my Hotmail address configured. When I open Outlook, the POP3 and Hotmail accounts Send/Receive mail with no problem (I was promped to make a rule in ESS - the rule was added successfully). By default, Outlook opens into my POP3 Inbox when started. However, when I click on the Hotmail inbox, there is a very long delay (~15-20 seconds) before the contents of the Hotmail inbox are displayed.
I have tried disableing the firewall and opening Outlook and going to the Hotmail inbox, and still have the same issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

I have also noticed that there is a significant delay when ESS starts with Windows (~30-45 seconds). The ESS splash screen shows on the desktop, little or no CPU usage, I can access the internet, etc... there is just a long delay befor it starts.
Anyone else have this?

Hi! I have start a scan on demand today at 19:43 and it stopped at 46% on this file.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\MSDN98\98VS\1040\3RDPARTY.CHM » CHM » ::DataSpace/Storage/MSCompressed/ControlData - is OK
Now at 21:10 it is at the same point with the processor at 100%.
On Windows vista 32 bit.
This afternoon I have installed Nod32 v3 beta2 on my XP HE SP2 partition and it happened the same thing. I'm sure it was,
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\ ......
but i don't remember if it was the same file.
PS:I have 2 partion: one with XP installed on and another with VISTA installed on

check that the windows firewall is not still activated. It was for me and this caused the delays in ESS Beta2. You will need to disable it if it is.

When reporting bugs it would help if you also reported what OS you are using as some problems may or may not appear depending on the OS.

Yes, noticed the same. Zero CPU utilisation. Yahoo widgets start, however they cannot access network (no update). ESS beta 1 worked ok. XP sp2

Me too. It's hit and miss. On Windows XP Pro the ESS splash often stays on the screen for 30 to 60 (or more) seconds before the icon shows up. Sometimes, however, it does not. Not sure why. Otherwise, all is working fine! CHUCK

No problems here at all. I'm impressed with Beta 2 and with the short (6 day) license for the beta - I think the final build must be close.

Anyone else who has slow startup could check how those two services are set on your xp system?
epfwtdi and epfw
In my case
the first is started - system
the second is started - automatic

I am trying the smart security. The startup splash screen hangs forever. I have tried a clean install and installing over the top. Anybody else having this problem? I have had no major bugs in any of the previous releases; I am on windows XP with FDISR and BoClean.

I unchecked "Networks drives" from being scanned in real time config and it seems to have fixed the splash screen hang problem for me (knock wood).

Thanx for the tip Elwood but it's still hanging on startup. I think I will give the AV only a go. Damn shame I was getting used to smart security.

The AV only is running fine now, seems much lighter.

Small issue:
With setting protection password enabled, you have to enter the password twice when you enter Setup | Personal Firewall | Advanced Personal Firewall Setup.

Thank you for mentioning this! I just kept thinking that I must have failed to establish focus with the cursor or something. This happens to me also. CHUCK

I am running beta 2 on my Desktop and Laptop, both have Vista Ultimate.
Beta 2 kills Windows Mail, as soon as Windows Mail launches the 'Program Has Stopped Working' window appears.
Beta's 1a, 1b, had no problem.
Is anyone else experiencing this ?

I am having the same problem with Outlook 2003 since installing the new beta. My solution is to temporarily turn off e-mail protection in anti-virus protection.
This is on Vista Home Premium.

Massive DPC (deferred procedure call) CPU 'usage' with ESS Beta 2 while utorrent downloads at 600+ kbytes/s. Confirmed with Process Explorer.
With utorrent stopped, DPC returns to normal.
With ESS uninstalled and utorrent running DPC remains normal.
RATTV3 Log attached.
ESS uninstalled.

There's still an bug here. After updating the database to 2.286 it counts up itself. So far so good, but the counter at On Demand Scan shows still the database, for example here, 2.284.

every time I disable the splash screen at start up it won't set itself after I hit okay, I can go back in right away and it's checked again. The splash screen is also making my system hang a bit at start up like it did before but never hung when it was disabled.
Edit: On XP sp3 with ESS Beta 2

Hi folks,
I've got two new bugs:
- Setup, Personal Firewall, Advanced Personal firewall setup, Connection View, check/uncheck any option --> the changes are not saved.
- Setup, Personal, Switch to Interactive filtering, Configure rules and zones, right click, select full path --> Eset crash.
- Windows Firewall Console: it believe that the PC is not protected and it recommend turn on the Windows Firewall.
Platform tests:
Windows Vista Ultimate x64
Intel Corel 2 Duo
2GB RAM
Nice product, best regards.

Guys - I know that this is the official beta bug thread, but ist getting messier all the time.
Xp Users
Vista Users
Different bugs and errors - is that really the way to go. Even for ESET moderators having to wade thru all the different situations and problems seems tough for me.
I suggest
1. Post errors that are conected into seperate posts like f.example:
startup hangs
firewall problems
.....
2. Please Start the thread with ESS and you OS - ESSXP Or ESSVista
3. If it concerns AV only - use EAV + OS

Have you tried to play a little bit with your other start-up applications , it could be some kind of incompatibility between EA and other application (e.g. firewall or other security software) . You can use AutoRuns from Microsoft (in Hide Microsoft entries mode) to disable a few things and see how it is after that . Then start enabling them one by one , followed by a reboot to see if something causes this delay .
You can also try to reconfigure the Start-up scan settings in the Scheduler to lower the priority to "when idle" or disable temporary AH/R-T P in the Antivirus protection (not the Real-time file system) to see what happens
Disable the splash screen to see if it makes a difference
Things like that ... just try
tosbsas
August 28th, 2007, 07:36 AM
hm, ok I can try, but its wierd - don't seem to be the only one, and never saw this problem before. No other new security software installed
scheduler can be excluded, cause it does that only once every 24 hs, and get the delay always - or do I under that option wrong? (userlogon)

Yes it happened to me today as well, hope ESET fix this problem.
