My computer illiterate daughter has just bought a new toshiba notebook. It is vista premium and dual core. She said that it came pre installed with norton,90 days trial(She is in another city). Can you please help me to build up that PC.She will come next week.I know win XP a lot.But not vista.
I want
free security software
for win vista premium and dual core
for a computer illiterate.
Which security combo is best(Firewall, antivirus, hips).Have you tried any programs that get along well.I dont want any conflicts because after I build her Notebook she will not be with me.
Also are there any services in vista that I have to disable as in win XP.Any peaks.I love computers and will learn a lot about vista. But if you help me it sure will save a lot of time. Thanks in advance.

Use avast! and the vista firewall.

As for disabling services, you can try teh Safe configuration from SpeedyVista (http://www.speedyvista.com/services.html).

Hi cet,
once you uninstall norton make sure you run the norton removal tools.
they can be found on the symantec website.
this will avoid any potential problems when installing another AV
