I realise that another forum was specifically about a software known as Process Guard, whose manufacturer is likely now defunct or some equivalent.

My question is in regards to the generic name for that software type: a software that monitors and reports self-activating applications, and other processes that probably the computer user is unaware of.

I liked that software (Process Guard) and am looking for a quality replacement software, but am uneducated as to even that software's generic type. It is obviously not an Anti-Virus, not a Firewall,...

Is this a H.I.P.S.? Is it an Anti-Malware?

I am revealing my ignorance. :-[ But could someone educate me? And possibly recommend some quality softwares that do the same thing well?

Thanks in advance for your patience.

Its a HIPS.

Id look at SSM or ProSecurity as possible replacements though theres many others you can try.
