I'm a little confused. Why would Kaspersky tell you you have the wrong key, and that you should secure a new license? Did you purchase your key directly from Kaspersky, or some discount site?

Did you try to install it on Kav instead of Kis or vice versa. Did it mention the key was blacklisted or did you originally buy this key for version 5.0?......................in which case you will have to swing by support to receive a replacementkey.

Larry, if this is a key then use notepad to open it see if says...."Kaspersky Personal Security Suite" or "Kaspersky Internet Security Suite"?

If it's a code then try to convert:https://activation.kaspersky.com/

It's probably because the key you bought was bought when 5.0 was still available and if thats why, then you simply contact support for a new key, but check it when you get home.

I have the same problem with my key for KAV. It works on version 6 but not for version 7. It isn't due to run out until August of next year. I sent an email to support on it but haven't heard anything back yet. I just used the 30 day trial key so hopefully I hear back by then. If not I will just have to go back to my version 6 of Kav.

I have the same problem. I did email support and they told me they don't use keys no more that they use activation codes only. The activation code they sent me didn't work. It kept saying "key invalid".

I'm using the Kiss 7 trial and I deleted the key and then put in the activation and it didn't work.

I'm waiting to hear back from them. I just tried the Kav forum and I keep getting a error in Opera. It can't reach the forum.

Hi Don,
Could the fact that the V7 on the e site is for one license on 3 computers have anything to do with it?

I was going to download KIS 7 from the site, and use a Systweak key, but when I noticed that it was good for 3 computers I thought the key would not work. I used the KIS7 from the ftp? site that I had and the key worked OK. I don't know if the KL site download would automatically change to one computer or not.

I am wondering if there is an error on the estore site. I notice that for KIS it shows a 1 year license for up to 3 users for 79.95 but for KAV only one user for $59.95.
Something seems amiss. If the 3 users is correct that is a very good deal for KIS7.

BTW, trjam, the link did not work for me. I had thought that they had taken it off since V7 was on the KL site. I kinda wish I had downloaded from the estore site, and learned whether the key would work, and if it would be for one or up to 3 users. But I don't want to go through the process again.

It might be that the trial version is still for only one user.

Best,
Jerry

I'm not trying to jump you, but it's very easy to make things worse than they are. Just because 10 users are having problems....does not mean 10 million US users are having the same problem.............that was my point and there are many more who have installed 7.0 without running into this over the last month when 125 has been available.

Thanks, Don. I do wonder if the price of $79.95 shown for 1-3 users for KIS is correct. The KAV shows for only 1 user. I suspect it is an error for KIS.

When I installed KIS today with the Systweak key the Activation module showed for 1 computer.

I'm not up to speed regarding the US pricing, however if you use the promo link http://www.kaspersky.com/version7, then it is $120 for a three user Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 license and $90.00 for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0, but the US may have special deals available to them.

I think the problem may be that some people downloaded the key file from a link provided by element 5 not an activation code as is my case. The tech could pull up my order number but not my key file so he sent me a new activation code which worked fine.
All I had to do was give him my order number, it took 10 minutes. He then sent the activation code and ask me to wait 30 minutes before installing it so the servers could sync up.

Okay Don, I will give it a try and let you know if it works.

EDIT:I used the link you gave and converted the activation to a key and had the key sent to my email. I extracted the key from the zip file.

I tried numerous times to use this key and I get the same thing I got before "key type invalid for this application". Finally I booted back to XP from Vista and re-read the email that was sent from Kav and I then discovered they are criss crossing the info between my two Kav subscriptions I have (3yr license Kav Antivirus and 2yr license for Kiss). It says in the email "The attached archive contains a key file which will provide full functionality of the anti-virus product." At least this is what it looks like anyway.

So where do I go from here?

Found my purchace info and although it was bought earlier it wasnt installed until August 2006 when my subscription for another AV ran out so it definately should be good until Aug 2008. However it is still no go with Ver 7. Decided to go with another AV instead of staying with Kav 6 as I don't know how much longer it will to get updates with the new version out and apparently not going to get anything back from Kaspersky.

I gave it a try, Rilla. Their records show that I bought it at the end of Sept of 2005 so they are sticking by that. I explained to them that it wasnt installed until August of 2006 as I had bought it to install on my work computer and my employer wouldnt let me (he is a Norton fan) so I saved it until my Nod licence ran out on my home computer in August of 2006 and installed my unused Kav. Thats why on the Kav licence information in the program that it shows it is good until August of 2008 as it was a 2 year licence. I have since reinstalled my Norton 2007 to which I have about 160 days left on the licence. Its working ok for me so I am going to stick with that and close the book on Kav for now. Maybe when the Norton licence runs out I might give Kav another try but doubt it with all that has gone down.

Hi Threedog,

This is interesting as to when the time starts on a license. My understanding was that on a boxed copy it does not start until installed. However, on a download it starts when purchased. Evidently that is the case in your situation.

Maybe they do not have a good way to determine when the installation was made, but it would seem fair to me that the time would not start until the program was installed. The license issue is a mess in my view.

Regards,
Jerry

{QUOTE-> I gave it a try, Rilla. Their records show that I bought it at the end of Sept of 2005 so they are sticking by that. <-QUOTE}
Sorry to hear that. I even thought they went by when you install it. I learned something from this as well.

FWIW I never heard back from customer service & I wrote them twice, if I hadn't found my original # I would of never gotten v7 to work. Perhaps Kaspersky has grown too big too fast, their customer service is not what it once was...

I just got another email from Support a couple of days ago telling me to contact US support requesting an activation code for Kav 7. That would make it just under 2 full weeks since I sent my first support ticket in. Of course US support has already told me that I am SOL so I have totally given up on it.

Nav 2007 is running beautifully for me so I am going to stick with that.
