Hello All,
I'm new to this! I'm trying to create a partition on my local C drive.
It's 300gb & has vista installed. I want to chop it in half!! When I open disk director - there is a red flag above my c drive, but a green one against my other drives. When I go through the wizard - i get the following error message:
Acronis disk director suite was not able to create the partition because there is not enough free space on the selected hard disk space.

...but there is !! I have 180GB free...anyone out there shead some light & show me the way??
Cheers

Have you tried using Vista's Disk Management program to shrink the Vista partition?

Do you get the same error from DD if you boot from the DD cd and try shrink the Vista partition?

Are you trying to shrink the Vista partition and then create a new partition in the new unallocated space (what I would recommend)? Or are you trying to "split" the partition?

I would trying resizing the Vista partition smaller (leaving the amount of unallocated space after it that you want for the new partition) and then creating the new partition. It's kind of hard to tell from your post exactly what procedure(s) you're using.

Also, using DD in "Manual" mode gives you more control over the program.
