just like any other web-based mail .
But watch out ! Be aware of trojans/keyloggers , any (especially public) computer can be infected and sensitive data such as the UN/PW for the account can easily be stolen by cyber criminals/hackers

Good point, I will change my password on a regular basses, How good is the google security on Gmail, any ideas.

That may not always help , you'd better have one known clean computer but the final decision is up-to-you.

I couldn't agree more: The antispam is phenomenal, in 5 months only 3 e-mails were wrongly spammed (I receive a daily average of 15 spam mails).

Incidentally all the spam I receive is coming from my old e-mail address as the mail is automatically redirected to gmail (splendid solution as it makes the change of address not so critical in terms of giving you time to notify your contacts over a long span of time. Several times I was notified that some e-mails were left on the old server as they were infected.

if you use gmail you should make sure you login using https and not http. if you use http your login information will be sent using https but your emails won't, they will though if you login using https.

i have this url on my toolbar so i just click on that to use gmail -
https://mail.google.com (i can't remember checking that url though. i don't use it much :| so maybe you should check it if you plan on using it)

you can use the firefox extension called customizegoogle too, it will make several google services use https as well as do something to the google cookie ID PREFs so you can't be IDed by google.

if you use opera you can use this to anonymise the cookie -

just drag it straight up to a toolbar and click on it every so often when you're on a google page.

If you use Gmail check out Better Gmail (http://lifehacker.com/software/gmail/lifehacker-code-better-gmail-firefox-extension-251923.php). It's a Firefox extension from Lifehacker.com.

It's actually several of the better gmail greasemonkey scripts combined into one Firefox extension. One of them is a forced https connection and you can toggle each on or off individually (i.e., only use those you are interested in).

To see their effect, turn them on in the extension options and then refresh (F5) your Gmail page.
