I'm looking for a software to EDIT AVI-files, I cut alot of pieces from recorded movies, documentaries, ...
like the beginning, the end, advertising, ...

At this moment, I'm using VirtualDub, but I'm not really satisfied.
1. The subtitles are OK.
2. The audio is OK.
3. The video (images) is not what I expected.

Two possibilities :
1. I'm using VirtualDub with the wrong video settings. I use the default settings.
Do you have any tips to improve images in VirtualDub ?

2. VirtualDub isn't that good and maybe another software will do a better job.
Which softwares ?

Keep in mind, this is not about free or paid, I just want quality and if I've to pay for it, so be it. :)

Hello Erik.

There is nothing wrong with VirtualDub, it's only a shell for external codecs. In fact, it doesn't have settings of it's own when it comes to output quality, but rather uses external codec settings, so VDub's editing capabilities really depend on the codecs you have installed on your system. In your case, you must be using the default settings for video qualty (in XviD, 900 kbps i.e.), and if your input video is of greater video bitrate than the default output quality, you will of course get a lower quality picture as a result.
Under "Video" menu, there's a "Compression" option where you can select desired output format and adjust the settings (quality) for it. Try playing with it for a while to see which quality suits you best. I also recommend you to install the latest K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm), it has everything you could need for converting and editing all kinds of DivX formats.
I have always used VirtualDub for my video editing, and found it to be irreplaceable. You can also download some plugins (called "Filters" in VDub) for fade in-out, transition effects, etc.
Sorry I cannot give you a suggestion for any other decent video editor, as I have never needed a replacement for VDub, but maybe someone else can... I am also eager to know.

Cheers. ;)

The Seer,
Thanks. I'm going to try to make VirtualDub working properly. I'm probably doing something wrong, when I'm writing the output-file and of course my lack of experience has also something to do with it. :)
