"archive damaged" is it ok to delete? ???

i have a "small" problem in turning off the computer...
i cant turn it off using the 'Turn off' buttons on the Start MEnu! :(

when i scanned my system with nod , i expected a lot of files locked,
but i saw 2 archives damaged.

C:\Program Files\Openoffice.org 2.0\program\python-core-2.3.4\lib\test\testtar.tar

C:\Documents and Settings\pc\Local Settings\Temp\yms50.tmp >>CAB>>\sunkist.bmp

what do they mean? what kinds of files are they? can i delete them? please help, else i need to pull my plug every time. :-[

Hi figsch, welcome to Wilders.

Neither file has anything whatsoever to do with your shutdown issue. The 1st file is to do with Open Office 2.0 (http://www.openoffice.org/) The 2nd file is a picture - Bitmap (http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/B/bit_map.html)

You can try the following to check for missing or damaged Windows files:

* From the Start menu, select Run.
* In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
* Select the OK button.
* Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
* Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Failing the above I would suggest repairing Windows as described in the following link: http://www.informationweek.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=189400897

Cheers ;D
