Hello all:

In another thread the idea came up that it would be good to describe for members how the various AV's and ASW's etc handle/don't handle in/out email scanning. I placed the thread here to avoid the debate on if FW software should be doing this scanning as with some suites.

To start , here is a functional upgrade request I just made for BD Av 10.

This thread is a descriptive thread for users to explain how the tools do this email work. Here are some questions for consideration.

(1) does the product scan email messages both in and out?
(2) does the product allow changes to the ports used by your isp?
(3) Describe any socket or other limitations?
(4) Can you scan IN or Out or both? Are you forced on that? eg must do both
(5) Does it scan just the attachments and ignore the message itself?
(6) If your products do AV and ASW does it use both sets of signatures to do the work?
(7) When it finds a bad email what does it do with it? delete?

I'm sure I've left out some questions but that is enough add any you like!

Additional Information: MS Outlook 2003 comes with a junk mail filter.
To disable it in favor of your own AV scanner here are the steps. I've done that since I use PC Tools Spam Monitor ( it learns!)8)

To disable Junk Mail: Outlook > Tools > Options > Junk E-mail > No Automatic
Filtering

Hello Moderators:

Looks like this thread is of zero interest to members. So can I request it be closed?

Seemed like a good suggestion at the time;D
