three hard drives
c d e ide c: xp fat32
f g ide both data fat32
h i sata h: vista ntfs i: data fat32
dual booting xp/vista
mbr vista bootrecord -- I think -- on c:
i have restored vista on h: several times by just restoring the partition (even to clone an identically configured machine excepting different harddrive where i used ti 10 to clone vista and ti 10 adjusted volume size etc.). From all the vista posts, I think I got away with such an easy restore/clone because the bootrecord is on c: and not on my vista volume h:
no problems with bootrecord
but if first drive (c d e) dies, what do I do (mindful that vista bootrecord is there)?
I have a complete TI 10 backup of entire drive.
can I restore the contents to a new drive without having to fix bootrecord?
i have used ghost for years and would like to use ti 10 in the same reliable consistent way with vista.
any tips would be most welcome.
[as an aside I have stumbled on an undocumented way to do an original install of vista business upgrade on a separate harddrive and volume (h: in my case) without touching xp or having to install vista twice (upgrade the upgrade so the activation and serial number stick):
If all of your volumes are fat32 and only one is ntfs, you can install an upgrade on the ntfs volume without touching xp and without the weird drive letter reversals.]
