I know the boot problem has been addressed many times on this forum and I have tried all of the suggestions to no avail. When I try to boot from the boot disk it times out with an error message" cannot find master boot record".
I have diagnosed the mbr,ran the mbr fixes, etc. What is differnt about this boot disk. I have other boot media that has no problem with the mbr.

What version and build of True Image? Did you make the boot disk from the installed TI software? Did you try it on another system?

Hello riyoung3032,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/products/).

Please make sure you use the latest build (http://www.acronis.com/support/updates/) of Acronis True Image. To get access to updates you should first register (http://www.acronis.com/registration/) your software. Don't forget to recreate Acronis Bootable Rescue Media after updating.

Please make sure you use blank unformatted media to create Acronis Bootable Rescue Media.
Please make sure your computer is set to boot from the appropriate boot device.

Thank you.

Hi Riyoung3032,

I am finding it a little difficult to understand exactly what is happening to give you the error message that you are receiving.

There should be no reference to the MBR when you boot from the ATI boot CD. Even if your PC did not have a hard disk installed you should still be able to boot from the ATI CD.

Perhaps you are doing something wrong so let me recap what you should be doing.

1. Logon to Windows and start ATI
2. Use the ATI "Create Bootable Rescue Media" function to create a boot CD
3. Shutdown
4. Start
5. During the "Memory Check" press F11 and observe if a right-arrow > appears next to the option Boot Menu >. Whether this happens or not depends on your BIOS. Many BIOS manufacturers use the F11 key to access the Boot Menu. If you cannot access the Boot Menu via the F11 key then you should go to your BIOS manufacturers website and find out how to access the Boot Menu.

(THE FOLLOWING IS NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU ARE A NOVICE)

Another option is, during the "Memory Check" press the "Del" key, which in most cases will give you access to the BIOS settings. In your BIOS settings set your CD device as the 1st boot device.

6. Boot from the CD
7. The computer should now boot straight into the Linux kernel without any reference to the hard disk or the MBR.

NOTE : You need to be patient. It can take a few minutes for the Linux environment to start, during which time nothing visual happens so you may think that the PC has frozen.
